Game Report

Typically after a day where major administrative changes are made, players, perhaps feeling somewhat at fault, come out of the gate firing on all cylinders. But the Canadiens did not. Not even the presence of their captain in the pre-game soccer warmup helped this squad.

Instead, it was Canucks still reeling from their 14th loss of the season on Sunday night who dominated from the drop of the puck. Eight minutes into the first period, shots were 12-1 for Vancouver as they enjoyed a 1-0 lead.

From that point there was some pushback by Montreal who rattled off the next 11 shots in a row before the end of the period. By driving to the net, Ryan Poehling picked up the Canadiens only goal of the game. It was Poehling’s fourth goal in 10 games this season.

The Canucks wrestled back control of the game in the second period firing 21 shots in the direction of Jake Allen but just four were of the high danger variety.

The Canadiens faded as the game went on managing only three high dangers hots of their own in the final 40 minutes.

In the battle between the bottom feeders it was Vancouver who prevailed. The Canadiens suffered their first regulation loss to the Canucks in six years.

Josh Anderson

  • “Having [Shea Weber] in town brings a little bit more energy knowing that he’s here… It’s good to get some things off your chest and have a guy like Webs to talk to.”
