Montreal Canadiens Media Release

MONTREAL — The Canadiens traded defenseman Nathan Beaulieu to the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday in return for a third-round pick — 68th overall — at the 2017 NHL Draft.

Beaulieu completed his fifth season with the Canadiens in 2016-17.

A former first-round pick from 2011, the 24-year-old rearguard registered four goals and 24 assists in 74 games during his most recent campaign. He also took part in five playoff games, picking up an assist with a minus-3 differential duyring the postseason.

With Buffalo’s pick, the Habs now hold six picks heading into this month’s draft.

    • I suppose that Nathan Beaulieu (and his dad) can handle themselves in a bar fight if that’s what you mean by toughness, Billy. But the reality is, his so-called toughness when applied recklessly was deemed to be assault. In case you missed it, Beaulieu pled guilty.

On that day at a house party, Beaulieu exercised poor judgement. His decision-making on the ice was just as poor which is the reason that he worked his way out of the Canadiens lineup.

Zero hockey IQ is Beaulieu’s biggest liability. Perhaps that’s why you identify with him so closely.
