Sean Farrell

It was a very special year for Canadiens prospect Sean Farrell. The 19-year-old who hails from Hopkinton, Massachusetts led all USHL scorers with 29 goals, 72 assists for 101 points in 53 games for the Chicago Steel. Farrell led his team to two titles, earning the Anderson Cup for the best record in the regular season followed by the Clark Cup for their USHL playoff championship.

For his superb performance, Farrell was named the USHL Player of the Year in June.

Player of the Year

This week, USA Hockey has awarded Farrell the Dave Tyler Junior Player of the Year.

“Obviously, I was really honored, especially after a year like this where there were a lot of changes to where I’d be playing or not playing,” said Farrell. “To not exactly know where I would be playing this year and then to have the success I’ve had as an individual and as a team, then adding on and getting this award really means a lot. It’s very special that I get to share that with my family and all my teammates and coaches as well.”

After spending an extra season in the USHL due to the pandemic, Farrell will play for the Harvard Crimson in NCAA Division I hockey in the fall. He was selected in the fourth round, 124th overall, of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.

“For us and a lot of other teams in the Ivy League, it will be a lot of guys’ first taste of college hockey,” Farrell said. “I think just about half of our team will be guys that have never played college hockey. It will definitely be a little bit of an adjustment period compared to the other (NCAA Division I) teams, but I think we’ll be alright once we get going.”

Cup Comes to Quebec

Over the past week, the Stanley Cup has visited Quebec with members of the Tampa Bay Lightning including general manager Julien BriseBois. But it was the Cup celebrations of two players that got the attention of Canadiens fans.

First Alex Killorn brought Lord Stanley’s mug to Beaconsfield but not before stopping by the Bell Centre for a photo.

Then it was Mathieu Joseph in Montreal North feasting on poutine from the Cup, enjoying fries, cheese curds and a pail of gravy.
