Game Report

We hope that you were in your seat early tonight at the Bell Centre. Because four minutes into the game, three goals had been scored. And defenceman Mike Matheson had a minus-2 rating.

Welcome to Montreal Mike!

It was that kind of game. Textbook? No. Entertaining? Absolutely!

Were you hoping to see a power-play goal by Cole Caufield? Check.

How about a Mario-esque faceoff-shot-goal? Check. Yes, it was scored by the opposition. But you had to admire a thing of beauty by the 23-year-old Owen Tippett.

If you want to snarl, send your negative vibes in the direction of Jake Allen. The Canadiens goaltender was caught napping on the play by Tippett as well as the second goal of the game, coincidentally also by Tippett.

And of course there was the excitement of the game-tying goal by Caufield with 1.9 seconds left in the game. Montreal’s ‘never say die’ attitude was on full display.

These two clubs are in the bottom third of the league for a reason: they each make a lot of mistakes. Believe it or not the Canadiens had 26 giveaways, and somehow won the game.

There is still much work to do, but a shootout win on a Saturday night in Montreal sent Habs fans home happy.

Up Next

The Canadiens will be off Sunday before welcoming the Buffalo Sabres to the Bell Centre for a Tuesday night matchup. Be sure to watch for our Game Day Preview on Tuesday afternoon.
