Game Report

The Montreal Canadiens are competing hard on most nights. And they can even play exciting hockey against playoff-bound teams like the New York Rangers.

Can Habs fans ask for anything more this season?

We can assume that the ‘tank battalion’ wasn’t enthralled with Montreal taking a loser point. And there are still supporters who want their team to win every game. But for most Habs fans, they should be quite satisfied watching their team, filled with injury replacements, duke it out against the third-best team in the Metropolitan division.

And the Canadiens didn’t waste any time getting to work. Kaiden Guhle opened the scoring just 35 seconds into the contest, stepping up into the offensive zone to earn his fourth goal of the season. Guhle added a primary assist on Montreal’s second goal of the period.

It was a back and forth affair with even strength goals, two power-play goals from the Rangers and a short-handed marker from Josh Anderson. The veteran right-winger was promoted to the top line for two shifts in the third period when Marty St. Louis was looking to spark the offence but to no avail.

It was a tough game for Nick Suzuki. The Canadiens captain led the team with five turnovers in the game and was well underwater in terms of shot attempts. For the first time this season, Suzuki was unable to score in the shootout.

Taking the game to the shootout kept Bell Centre fans engaged throughout. The Canadiens have two consecutive shootout losses and have run their winless streak to five games. Unfortunately that means that Montreal is without a win in the month of March.
