Rookie Dinner

The Canadiens held their traditional rookie dinner on Sunday in Vancouver. Due to pandemic restrictions the annual event was cancelled last year. That meant that seven players were eligible this year including Jake Evans, Cole Caufield, Michael Pezzetta, Nick Suzuki, Alexander Romanov, Corey Schueneman and Cayden Primeau.

“It’s a tradition,” said interim head coach Martin St. Louis. “When the schedule comes out, you already start looking to find out where you can organize the rookie dinner. You look at the cities where you can have fun and where you spend a little more time. It fell on Vancouver this year.”

Event organizer Joel Edmundson had the rookies on Vancouver streets in wet suits and frogman gear.

The dinner was held at the Blue Water Cafe and featured lobster. The seven rookies picked up the tab. According to Cole Caufield, the total was “eye-opening.”

“I’ll remember the whole night, just being with the guys and getting to experience that with them, and kind of relax and get away from hockey a little bit,” said Caufield. “I know the guys enjoyed themselves, and I think that was really good for us.”

Forward Lines / Defence Pairs / Goalies

On Monday, the Canadiens practiced for almost 60-minutes at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver. The team welcomed back Jake Allen (lower-body), Paul Byron (upper-body), Jonathan Drouin (wrist) and Christian Dvorak (upper-body).

Byron, Drouin and Dvorak practiced wearing non-contact jerseys.

Also wearing non-contact jerseys at practice were Jake Evans and Jeff Petry. Evans missed the game against the Oilers with an upper-body injury. Petry was added to the injury list with an upper-body injury following the game in Edmonton.

These were the forward lines, defence pairings and goaltenders for the Canadiens 5-2 win on Saturday:

Cole Caufield – Nick Suzuki – Josh Anderson

Artturi Lehkonen – Rem Pitlick – Joel Armia
Michael Pezzetta – Ryan Poehling – Mathieu Perreault

Alexander Romanov – Ben Chiarot

  1. The top 6 D men when healthy. Edmondsen, Petrie, Chariot, Rommy, Kulak and Savard. Does Hughes resign Chariot and Kulak? They can always be traded in the future and in the mean time it gives the prospects time in the “A” to develop. And there are some good prospects.
