The final week of the regular season had finally arrived.  Thankfully, despite a run of games in the loss category, the Canadiens already knew they were looking forward to a playoff run.  But first, they needed to find a way to finish their schedule on a positive note.  First up was a trip to Florida to play the Panthers.  The scoring contingent seemed to wake up a bit for Montreal, with Tomas Plekanec netting a power play goal in the first period.  Brendan Gallagher and P. A. Parenteau both had even-strength goals in the second period, as did Devante Smith-Pelly – his first in a Canadiens uniform.  Max Pacioretty had a scary moment when he hit his head after falling awkwardly into the boards.  He did not return to the game.  Final score: Canadiens, 4-1. After a few nights of rest, the Canadiens returned home for their final regular season game at the Bell Centre.  The Detroit Red Wings managed to get the first goal, but Andrei Markov tied things up before the end of the first period.  Jeff Petry added to the Montreal tally in the second period, and Plekanec potted another goal on the man-advantage in the third which forced overtime.  Just over a minute into the extra time, Lars Eller sealed the win, which also meant Carey Price held the new record for wins in a season for the Canadiens.  Final score: Canadiens, 4-3 (OT). (Read our full recap here: Price Sets Habs All-Time Win Record)

The last game of the season brought the Habs to Toronto for a rivalry matchup against the Maple Leafs and the home team seemed determined to make sure the Canadiens didn’t coast into the postseason too easily.  David Desharnais put Montreal on the board in the opening frame.  Less than a minute into the second period, Plekanec scored and then, with about ten seconds left at the end of the period, Jacob de la Rose tallied a goal as well.  This game would eventually go a shootout, where Alex Galchenyuk and Desharnais were the only goal-scorers.  Final score: Canadiens, 4-3 (SO).  (Read our full recap here: Habs Close Out Season with 50th Win)

The Canadiens head south for an Easter Sunday matchup against the Florida Panthers.  Until then, we’ve got plenty of content to keep you busy reading about your favourite team! In case you missed them, here are some fantastic articles published earlier this week:
