Game Report

Post-game, Claude Julien acknowledged that the Sabres gave his club trouble this season. Yes, indeed. After taking a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes, the Sabres were dreaming about a season sweep over the Canadiens.

But the Canadiens scored four times in the second period. The momentum turned Montreal’s way with an incredible effort by Artturi Lehkonen driving to the Sabres net. Pretty passing from linemates Max Domi and Andrew Shaw set up the opening goal.

Buffalo head coach Phil Housley was disappointed that his team made critical mistakes that handed the Habs a win.

Don’t let the goal total fool you. Carey Price delivered another strong effort in earning his 32nd win of the season. A reckless double minor by Andrew Shaw, some selfish play from Jonathan Drouin and suspect defensive play from the pairing of Brett Kulak and Jeff Petry resulted in the Sabres’ goals.

It wasn’t pretty but the Canadiens fought hard and carved out another win. The victory put the Habs three points up over Columbus and two points behind Carolina. The two teams each hold a game in hand over Montreal.

What Did They Say?

 Post-game Quotes
Claude Julien
  • “.”
Brendan Gallagher
  • “We’ve been through this long enough. Obviously, we would’ve liked to get off to a bit of a better start, but it’s nice to have Pricey [Carey Price] in there to bail us out at times. We responded the right way.”
Max Domi
  • “It’s a huge win. As a team, I think we stayed focused, we stayed grounded, we found a way to execute and we buried our chances. We had everyone going tonight. It was a great effort. We can enjoy it, but the best part about the League is you play so much and we have a huge game against Carolina tomorrow.”
