Game Report

Sometimes preseason games simply have to be endured. Games involving the Senators are always a little tough to watch but two in a row this early in the season is tough to take. On Saturday, the Senators lineup included names like Erik Karlsson, Dion Phaneuf, Bobby Ryan, Derick Brassard and Kyle Turris. Even our old pal, Chris Neil turned up to challenge.. wait for it.. Philip Samuelsson.

Yes, it was that kind of game.

The ‘veterans’ iced for the Canadiens included a string of four-liners: Torrey Mitchell, Bryan Flynn, Paul Byron and Bobby Farnham. Prior to the game, a tweet circulated noting that the Canadiens defence had 17 games of NHL experience.. in total.

Byron had himself quite a day with a goal and two assists. He was also involved in the Senators second goal when a weak effort from Byron failed to tie up the goal-scorer Turris.

Mike McCarron had several strong shifts, but starting with a line of Stefan Matteau and Charles Hudon, didn’t have much to work with. Ryan Johnston was steady on the back end finishing the game at plus-3 in just over 25 minutes of ice-time.

Al Montoya went the distance in goal, allowing two goals on 26 shots, bringing him one step closer to being named the backup for the opening day lineup.
