Game Report

With the Canadiens arriving at the TD Garden needing a win against a bitter rival, who do you want tending goal? Take your pick from any active goaltender in the NHL. If your answer, delivered in a nano second, is not Carey Price, you haven’t been paying attention.

Price is capable of intimidating the Bruins like no skater can. Over his career, Price has a 25-13-5 record against Boston while playing behind a boat load of weak Canadiens teams.

Tonight, Price did not give up a 5-on-5 goal. The Bruins capitalized while 4-on-4; Montreal has been outscored 6-0 on 4-on-4 this season.

The Bruins also scored 6-on-4 with just 37.6 seconds left while Michael Chaput was sitting in the box and with Tuuka Rask on the Boston bench for the sixth attacker.

Price was outstanding especially in the third period as the Canadiens were outshot 17-4. Price made 41 saves on the night.

Since December 1st, Price has been one of the very best in the NHL. In the last six games, he has two shutouts with the opposition recording just nine goals. With Montreal struggling to score, his record is just 3-3-0 reminding us of the inaccuracy of statistics without context.

Montreal benefited from some timely scoring from Brendan Gallagher and a shortie from Paul Byron. Jeff Petry batted a puck out of the air just 15 seconds into the overtime period for the game-winner. But make no mistake, it was Price who stole this victory for the visitors in red.

What Did They Say?

 Post-game Quotes
Claude Julien
  • “When you look at the goals they scored, that’s exactly it (speed and offense). They regrouped well to win the faceoff and from there they used their speed. We know Petry comes from a baseball family and he showed his talents tonight. We’re going to count that as a home run tonight.”

Paul Byron

  • “I’m incredibly proud of the team. I thought everybody battled hard.”

Carey Price

  • “It’s just the atmosphere. It’s a great place to play hockey and I’ve always enjoyed the rivalry between our two teams.”

Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy

  • “.”
