Game Report

It is undoubtedly the best rivalry in sports. Bruins vs Canadiens is a long-standing feud and that applies regardless of the standings. Even newcomers the Canadiens like Ben Chiarot knew to circle this game on the schedule.

Chiarot was trusted with considerably more responsibility lining up on the Canadiens first defence pairing with Shea Weber. Claude Julien wanted to challenge the Bruins, one of the top teams in the league, with additional size and grit. And for the most part, the change paid off.

Chiarot scored the game-winner, his first goal for the Canadiens in the Bell Centre. And Victor Mete, bumped to the second pair with Jeff Petry, scored twice.

Kudos to the Canadiens video staff. And to Julien, coaching his 1,200th NHL game, who challenged the Bruins fifth goal, risking a penalty, but were justified as Charlie Coyle was ruled offside. It was an obvious turning point of the game.

Montreal’s special teams continue to struggle. The power-play could manage just two shots on goal in their two opportunities with the man advantage. On the penalty-kill, the Bruins needed just six seconds for David Pastrnak’s 15th goal of the season. Boston’s fourth goal by Sean Kuraly came less than a minute after a Habs penalty expired in third period.

The Canadiens will practice on Wednesday at 11 am. at Brossard getting prepared to face the Flyers in Philadelphia on Thursday night.
