 Game Recap:

Columbus was the better team on this night. The Blue Jackets punished the Habs early on outhitting Montreal 20-5 in the first period and earned a road win. While the Habs did a superb job on the penalty-kill led by Price, Markov, Lars, Plekanec, Emelin, Tinordi, Gionta, Weaver and Moen, they were worn down playing in the defensive zone. Desharnais was not able to mount any offense against the bigger Jackets and was responsible for two goals against. Price was brilliant keeping his team in the game facing 40 shots.

 Post-game Press Conference

186237429_slideCoach Michel Therrien

  • “Honestly, I never talk to players after the game. [Jarred Tinordi] is a good kid. He’ll learn from those mistakes. We’ll talk to him tomorrow.
  • “It is a strange question (about which team is the real Habs.) Tonight was a bad night. We didn’t get many of them this season, but tonight was not a good night for us.”

Captain Brian Gionta

  • “When you’re taking penalties, you’re chasing the game the whole time and that’s what we were doing tonight.”
  • “Unfortunately it’s the same mistakes that keep coming back to haunt us.”

Forward Lars Eller

  • “We were creating enough scoring chances to win this game. Small things make a difference. We didn’t capitalize on our chances.”
  • “(Extended time on the penalty-kill) is not ideal. A lot of guys sitting on the bench for long stretches. It’s not good for our rhythm.”
  • “[Carey Price] has been bringing his ‘A’-game every night, giving us a chance. He did the same tonight. Pricer kept us in the game.”

Defenseman Jarred Tinordi

  • “I thought I had room to make that play (on the game-winner.) That’s one I’d like to have back for sure.”

Goaltender Carey Price

  • “Obviously disappointed with the loss but moving forward that’s a confidence-builder.”

Blue Jackets forward Ryan Johansen

  • “We’re a team that just keeps coming.  We’re a bunch of little rats, we’re just in your face the whole game. That’s our identity, and we’ve been doing a good job of sticking with that in the second part of this year for sure. I’m really happy with the way the guys played tonight.”

Blue Jackets defenseman James Wisniewski

  •  “I certainly felt if you watch the second half of the game, it looked like we started taking over and grinded them down. We play a big, heavy game and it’s hard to play like that.”

Blue Jackets forward Brandon Dubinsky

  • “It’s not easy to come [to Montreal] and get points. This was huge.”
