Rookie Camp Opens

Montreal Canadiens rookie camp opened in Brossard on Wednesday with prospects reporting for medicals and fitness testing.

Canadiens Top Prospects

On Wednesday, Rob Ramage, Canadiens Director of Player Development, virtually met with the media to offer his perspective on some of the prospects at this week’s rookie camp.

“Last year, [Kaiden Guhle] was named captain in Prince Albert as an 18-year-old. That shows his leadership and his maturity as a young guy,” Ramage said. “Watching him in the World Juniors, he was solid. He carries himself like a pro. His brother’s a pro hockey player, an NHL hockey player, so he’s been around it. There’s an air of confidence, not cockiness. He’s becoming a professional before he’s a professional. I think we’ve got a really solid one there..”

“There are two great options for [Jan Mysak.] If he goes back to Junior, he can play in the World Juniors. He’ll also have a lot of ice time with Hamilton,” said Ramage. “If he stays here and plays with Laval, he starts the development process. That’s something that’s being discussed. I don’t think the decision has been made so far. We’ll let him get on the ice and see how things go.”

“[Jesse Ylonen] had a great initial season in North America last year. That journey and progression continues,” said Ramage. “I think the expectations are that he’ll play games in Montreal this year. We’ll see how camp goes and how he does as far as that’s concerned.”

Price: A Hab For Life

Canadiens goaltender Carey Price has been back in Montreal for a couple of weeks working out daily at Brossard as he recovers from knee surgery performed on July 22nd in New York City. Recovery time was estimated to be 10-12 weeks which would have him ready for Canadiens opening night on October 13th.

In an interview with NHL.com, Price said that he has not yet returned to the ice but expects to be skating soon. “I had a torn meniscus, they had to go in there and clean that up,” said Price. “I’ve been playing with that for a little while now. We wanted to take care of it and now I’m just trying to get back to health again. I feel pretty good.”

“I haven’t skated yet. I’m just doing my rehab and making sure that I’m ready.”

Coping with the injury last season, Price led Canadiens goaltenders in wins in the regular season and with his stellar play, carried Montreal to the Stanley Cup Finals.

Price also spoke about the major risk taken by Marc Bergevin exposing his franchise player in the expansion draft. “At the time, when we decided that was the course to take, we didn’t have much concern about moving,” said Price. “Then all the buzz around the draft makes you question that. But we knew that we wanted to stay in Montreal.”

“We’re thankful to be back here (and) at the end of the day, we’re going to be a Montreal Canadien for the rest of our career.”
