Game Report

Another win and the Habs will pocket four points from the province of Alberta. While many will focus on the five goals scored, perhaps the more important number is just two goals allowed to the Oilers.

While Marty St. Louis deservedly gets credit for instilling the fun and passion back in the game, perhaps a nod should be directed to Luke Richardson and Trevor Letowski. Both assistants are experienced coaches and have been integral to the Habs recent success.

The Canadiens are playing sound defensive hockey. That is crucial in front of a trio of goaltenders who are more comfortable playing at the AHL level. Tonight the Canadiens limited the high-powered offence of the Oilers to just three high-danger scoring chances in the final 40 minutes of play. With that kind of manageable workload, Sam Montembeault picked up his sixth win of the season.

Three of the Canadiens goals came via special teams. The power-play is starting to heat up with two goals. Artturi Lehkonen added a short-handed goal in the third period. Nick Suzuki led the way with a goal and two assists.

The Canadiens were on the wrong side of three goal reviews in this game. Habs fans were not pleased with the result of any of them.

Prior to the game the Axios Ukrainian choir performed the Ukrainian and Canadian  national anthems.
