Mike Komisarek will be a "smashing hit" once again

Here’s an excerpt from the Canadiens.com article from Manny Almela:

With the start of the regular season only a few short weeks away, the time has come to dust off those crystal balls and to see what lies ahead for a few Canadiens in 2008-09. Next up, Mike Komisarek.

Canadiens opponents may not know Komisarek by name, but they certainly know the taste of the glass at the Bell Centre, with the rugged defenseman never shying away from delivering one of his trademark bone-crushing hits. The 26-year-old doesn’t discriminate when it comes to who feels his wrath in the corners of the Habs’ zone.

After finishing second in the league last season with 266 hits, Komisarek will now be looking to pry the belt from the NHL’s reigning champion, Dustin Brown of the Kings.

Always ready to sacrifice his body for the team, 6-foot-4, 240-pounder will be looking to defend a crown of his own this coming season. Thanks to his 227 blocked shots last year, Komisarek dethroned Anton Volchenkov of the Senators, the league leader in 2006-07.

  1. Unfortunately, I believe that Komisarek’s excellant physical and defensive play overshadows his untapped offensive skills. He is as good offensively as any Hab defender outside of Andrei Markov, but gets no power play time. Still his even strength scoring the last couple of seasons has been near the top among Montreal defenders, and fairly high in the league overall. Give Mike some power play opportunities and he will contend for the Norris Trophy every year.
