Maple Leafs Acquire Jamal Mayers from Blues for 3rd round pick

Habster:

Don’t worry Leafs fans, Cliff Fletcher isn’t pulling a JFJ or following the traditional “dump draft choices for over the hill veterans” philosophy of the past few years.

The acquisition of Jamal Mayers is a decent move as they have extra draft picks to deal and Mayers is a very serviceable forward who can play a very physical, shutdown style of game. He also is a very good skater which is an area where the Maple Leafs must vastly improve as a team.

Now, if trader Fletcher makes another trade to move up the board to pick Nikita Filatov or Colin Wilson, then we’ll have finally seen the dawn of a new era in the way the Leafs do business, too bad it took 8-10 years to come to this realization.
