HALAK RECEIVED OFFER FROM RUSSIAN TEAM.

LA PRESSE: Marc Antoine Godin recently reported Montreal Canadiens goaltender Jaroslav Halak, who’s currently playing for their AHL affiliate in Hamilton, has received a contract offer from a Russian team, but his agent, David Schiata, insists Halak wants to remain in North America. Schiata also denied that Halak was using this offer to pressure the Canadiens for a trade.

Spector’s Note: Hat tip to “Claude” The article also noted there’s been rumours of some teams, including the San Jose Sharks, having interest in Halak. While anything’s possible, I don’t believe the Canadiens are keen to move Halak nor do I believe the Sharks are looking at him as a backup for Evgeni Nabokov. And no, the Pittsburgh Penguins aren’t going to acquire him to share the goalie duties with Marc Andre Fleury. If the Pens do go shopping for a goalie they’ll want someone with experience, and not a guy who has all of 16 NHL games under his belt.
