Montreal Canadiens News: Defenseman Noah Juulsen Claimed Off Waivers by Florida Panthers, Habs, Laval Rocket, NHL, Rocket Sports Media
ROCKET SPORTS MEDIA | LAVAL, QC. — The Florida Panthers claimed Montreal Canadiens defenseman Noah Juulsen off of waivers today. Juulsen, a Canadiens first-round draft pick in 2015 (26th overall), will join the Panthers with the hopes of establishing himself as an NHL-caliber blueliner after suffering injury setbacks for the past two seasons. Juulsen will have an opportunity to prove himself NHL-ready, or perhaps eventual assignment to Florida’s taxi squad.

An interesting note to consider in this move is that Rick Dudley, former Montreal Canadiens Senior Vice-President of Hockey Operations, and Shane Churla, former Montreal Canadiens Director of Amateur Scouting, both currently hold influential roles with the Florida Panthers. Dudley is a Senior Advisor, and Churla heads up amateur scouting for the club.

Aside from Florida claiming the young Habs defenseman, the remainder of yesterday’s players put on waivers cleared and now wait to find out if they’ll be assigned to the Montreal taxi squad or the Laval Rocket:

- Laurent Dauphin (F)
- Jordan Weal (F)
- Gustav Olofsson (D)
- Xavier Ouellet (D)
- Charlie Lindgren (G)
Today the Canadiens also put forwards Michael Frolik and Corey Perry on waivers. NHL teams have until noon on Tuesday, January 12 to claim either player.

i get sick to my estomach each time we lose our young prospects.
trevor et companie do all the work.scouting,selecting/developing them.
and someone else picks them up and profits from it.why?because we did not give them the chance to play with us.not right.when will we learn?
the grass is not always greener on the other-side eh?often we have what it takes on our own side too.only needs to be cultivated,maybe eh?

Bonjour! Thank you for your comment – I agree it is unfortunate to lose Juulsen’s talents, but the powers that be in Florida certainly knew a good deal when they saw it! You’re correct that Trevor Timmins and company do an excellent job scouting these young prospects, and it’s a perennial disappointment when they are misused or not developed to their full potential. In Noah’s case, this was amplified by his unfortunate injury struggles, which also set back his chance to really gain traction in the depth chart. Let’s hope that he gets a good fresh start with the Panthers and can get some positive upward momentum!
