	On this day in hockey history… 1973 — Possibly the greatest Swedish hockey player of all-time, Peter Forsberg, was born. 1978 — Former NHL’er, Pavel Datsyuk, was born.  1992 — The newest team in the NHL, the San Jose Sharks (entering their second season), hired Deborah Wright as a part-time scout, making her the first female to work in a scouting position for an NHL team.

► Report: Timmins Extended

• The Toronto Sun is reporting that Vice President of Player Personnel and Director of Amateur Scouting, Trevor Timmins has received a contract extension from the Canadiens.
• The report by Lance Hornby states, “The Canadiens have extended the contract of their amateur scouting boss Trevor Timmins, who has had some home runs in recent years.”

► Weber on THE Trade

• Shea Weber speaks about the trade and beginning the next step of his career with the Canadiens.

► Gallagher In Favour Of Moves

• The Montreal Canadiens certainly made, what was in their minds, an attempt to become a better club, and Brendan Gallagher gave his opinion on the transactions.
• In an interview with Dave Stubbs of NHL.com, Gallagher spoke about, among other things, the Subban trade, “Everyone was talking and there were so many rumors flying around (laughs). By the time the trade happened, you kind of expected something to happen.”
• Gallagher complimented Shea Weber’s abilities, then spoke about the fans not immediately accepting Weber “[…] If, as a team, we can go out and win games, I think everyone is going to understand just how valuable Shea can be to our group.”
• Finally, he spoke about the success of the line comprised of himself, Max Pacioretty and Alex Galchenyuk and how that might translate to next season “We enjoyed playing together and talking things out on the bench, seeing little ways to improve. If we can carry that into the start of next season, I think it will be pretty important for our team.”

► Chipchura to the KHL

• Similar to other Habs of the past, former Canadiens farmhand Kyle Chipchura has found a new home, heading overseas to join the KHL.
• Chipchura, who wore a letter as a member of the Phoenix Coyoytes in 2014-15, has signed a one-year deal, of which the financial terms were not disclosed, with HC Slovan Bratislava.
• The former Hamilton Bulldogs captain spent four seasons donning either a Canadiens or Bulldogs uniform, prior to being dealt to the Anaheim Ducks in 2009-10.
• He later went on to join the now Arizona Coyotes where he spent five seasons, having his greatest success he experienced in the NHL playing with a team full of imperfections.
• Among his current teammates are the likes of former 50-goal scorer Jonathan Cheechoo, former Capitals blueliner Tomas Kundratek and former team Canada WJC goaltender Justin Pogge.

► The Prodigal Son Returns

• Few players have been subjected to scrutiny as Phil Kessel, however, that didn’t stop the Conn Smythe runner-up bringing the Stanley Cup to the site of his torture.
• When the headline “Phil Kessel brings the cup to Toronto” emerged it was met with unequivocal negativity, obviously, until these same people were made aware that he brought the Stanley Cup to a children’s hospital.
• On one of his three stops with Lord Stanley’s mug, another being his hometown of Madison, Wisconsin, he brought the Stanley Cup to Sick Kids, a local Toronto children’s hospital.
• Kessel, who had his worst career season since his soft more campaign in terms of points per game, was a standout in the postseason, scoring 10 goals and having 22 points in 24 games.

► Vrbata Narrowing It Down

• For the second consecutive opportunity he’s had to experience free agency, Radim Vrbata has stretched it out well past July first and is narrowing his choices down to four.
• According to his agent Rich Evans, Vrbata is close to signing with a team. “We have been discussing the structure of a contract with four teams and hope to come to an agreement shortly.”
• 2015-16 saw a drastic nose dive in the Czech sniper’s production with an 18 goal decrease and 36 point depreciation in 16 fewer games following his 31-goal campaign in 2014-15.
• The Canadiens were rumoured to be in the running for the acquisition of the 35-year old’s talent right until the end, with the proposition of playing with the Sedins more enticing than Tomas Plekanec or David Desharnais.

► Roslovic Signs

• Following a season that’s end result had them with a potential 50-goal scorer the Winnipeg Jets’ young dynamic forward core has been further supplemented with the signing of former first rounder, Jack Roslovic.
• The Jets signed Roslovic to his first professional contract this week, the standard three-year entry level contract, however with a $1.1375 million average annual value.
• The former 25th overall pick was selected one pick ahead of Noah Juulsen in the 2015 draft, just out of the grasp of the Montreal Canadiens who would have been mulling over that decision for some time had they been selecting 25th.
• Roslovic will be leaving the University of Miami (Ohio) after his first semester to head to pro hockey, he recorded 10 goals and 26 points in 36 games in college last season.

► Leier Looking To Stick

• Taylor Leier spent six games in the NHL last season, failing to record a point in any of those games and heading into next season he’s looking to land a spot in Philadelphia.
• In an interview with the Saskatoon SunPhoenix, Leier spoke of his desire to take the next step, “My goal right now is to stick with the big club for a full year and keep progressing as the year goes on, so I can certify myself as a regular NHL player.”
• The former Canadian World Junior team member reminisced about his first game in the NHL, “It was really cool,” recalls Leier. “It’s just incredible. I remember my first game in Philadelphia. I kind of looked around and thought, ‘wow, this is surreal.’ It was crazy and so special.[…]”
• The former fourth round pick hit the ice donning a Lehigh Valley Phantoms jersey 71 times last season, reaching the 20 goal plateau for the first time in his professional hockey career.
