	On this day in hockey history… 1939 — Syd Howe scored a hat trick as the Red Wings beat the Canadiens, 3-1 at the Olympia in Detroit.  1965 — Henri Richard scored the winning goal and added three assists to lead the Canadiens to a 4-3 win over the Red Wings, in the final Christmas game held at the Forum in Montreal. 1971 — Ken Hodge scored a goal and added three assists to lead Boston to a 5-1 win over the visiting Philadelphia Flyers. This was the final Christmas Day game played by the Bruins.

► Happy Holidays from P.K. Subban

• After committing $10 million to the Montreal Children’s Hospital Canadiens defenceman P.K. Subban gave another altitudinous gift to the sick children at said hospital, and one in particular.
• The kids were under the impression that they were headed into the Atrium to wrap presents but when they arrived they were stunned to see a Winter Wonderland.
• Along with all of the presents the kids got, the parents received gift cards themselves and a couple families received $250 Air Canada gift cards.
• The largest gift of all however was to a family of a sick child that lost their house in a fire three days prior to the event. Air Canada, along with Subban, gave the family $5,000 to help with re-cooperating from the distruction.

► Gallagher to travel with the team

• The Canadiens’ recent diminution from Eastern Conference power house to a team just looking for a point has lead to mass anguish awaiting the arrival of Brendan Gallagher, and he’s getting closer.
• According to multiple sources Gallagher will be traveling with the team to Washington following their Winter Break on the 26th.
• There’s no indication whether Gallagher will be playing in any of the games but, based off this information, there’s a strong possibility he will play in the Winter Classic on January first.
• Prior to being taken out of the Habs’ lineup, Gallagher had 19 points in 22 games and was third on the team behind Max Pacioretty and Tomas Plekanec. Despite playing 14 less games than the majority of the team he’s still fifth on the team in scoring.

► If this is true…

• A CBC broadcaster from western Canada unleashed quite the bomb this week when he tweeted that a Wayne Simmonds trade to Montreal was fait accompli.
• Marc-Eric Bouchard said via his Twitter account that he heard a scout talking as he was in Calgary saying that Wayne Simmonds to Montreal was a ‘done deal.’
• All the two teams were waiting on was the holiday trade freeze to end which it will at midnight on December 27th.
• Simmonds has scored 28+ goals three times in his career and two times in the last two seasons. A red flag for Simmonds is he’s a very streaky scorer with wide gaps between finding the back of the net.
• There’s still no indication on what Marc Bergevin will have to concede to acquire such a player so far from the trade deadline.  Needless to say Canadiens fans will be ardently awaiting when the clock is up.

► Vanek on Therrien

• In Thomas Vanek’s 35 game stint with the Montreal Canadiens he experienced the most altitudinous of highs and the most underwhelming of slumps but in one of those peaks he says it could’ve kept going.
• In an interview with La Presse, Vanek commented on a move to separate himself, Max Pacioretty and David Desharnais, “It was didn’t go super well towards the end with the Canadiens … Michel [Therrien] is a good coach, and he makes choices. When I was there, by the end of the season and even for the first round of the playoffs, I thought I had found a good chemistry with David [Desharnais] and Max [Pacioretty],” said Vanek.
• He continued, “We were one of the best lines in the league. Then there were changes in lines, and it stayed that way, we were separated. These are decisions that coaches make , but I thought we could have stayed three together and find solutions. We could have done it.”
• In the 18 regular season games the Austrian played in Quebec he had six goals and 15 points but in 17 playoff game he had five goals and 10 points.

► No Habs at WJC 2016

• Habs prospect Lukas Vejdemo was one of the final cuts by Team Sweden meaning that the Montreal Canadiens will not have a prospect at the World Junior Championship in Helsinki this year.
• Defenseman Noah Juulsen was one of the last cuts by Team Canada.

► He fired it through the net

• In Wednesday afternoon’s pre-World Junior Championship action between Sweden and Canada, the Swedes were destroying the Canadian goal.
• On three different occasions on Swedish goals the puck literally went through the netting and off the end boards prompting replays on those aforementioned occasions.
• The barn-burner ended in a 7-6 Canadian victory and in the game Lukas Vejdemo failed to record a point on any of the six Swedish scores.
• Commentator Ray Ferraro was stunned along with all watching saying with a chuck in his voice “I don’t know if I’ve ever seen anything like this […]”

► Garland signs an entry-level contract

• Connor Garland wasn’t selected until the 123rd pick overall in the 2015 draft and has been rewarded for the monster numbers he’s putting up in the QMJHL.
• The Arizona Coyotes have signed their sumptuous former fifth round pick to a three-year, entry-level deal of which the financial terms were not disclosed to the public.
• The 5-foot-8-inch forward has 80 points in 33 games this season, 22 more points than the player second in league scoring.
• Last season the diminutive forward had 94 assists and 129 points in 67 games for the Moncton Wildcats.
• The second leading scorer on his team, 2016 draft eligible forward Cam Askew, has 46 points in 33 games, 34 less points than his linemate Garland.

► Happy Holidays

• Most know Jack Edwards as a totally impartial member of the media especially regarding hits to the head and body contact in general.
• Earlier in the week in a game between the St. Louis Blues and the Boston Bruins Tyler Randell took exception to Ryan reaves push down Tyler Krug and a fight insued.
• As the fight was going on, Jack Edwards decided to sing a holiday song, “We Wish You A Merry Christmas” to be exact, until Reaves got taken down and he started commentating once more.
