• Team USA head coach John Tortorella isn’t a stranger to making news in his post-game comments. Following the US 5-2 loss to Canada on Saturday, Tortorella issued a challenge to Canadiens forward Max Pacioretty, publicly.
• Via Sportsnet, Tortorella said, “I need more out of [Pacioretty]. I know how he can play. And this is what happens in this type of tournament and the team make-up. You’re not going to get your 20 minutes. If other people are going, they tend to take some ice time. You look at … Canada’s team, your minutes are going to be down.”
• Pacioretty received just 10:05 in icetime on Saturday night. That followed Friday’s game where he saw the ice for 14:51.
• Tortorella continued, “But Max hasn’t … he’s got to give me some reason to give him more minutes here. So we’ll see where it goes. We know he’s a really good player. Great kid. But we’ve just got to get a little more out of him.”

► Fisher With the ‘C’

• The Nashville Predators have named Mike Fisher as their new captain. Fisher follows Shea Weber, now a member of the Montreal Canadiens. Weber will be an alternate captain in Montreal this season.
•  “It’s really special to be wearing the ‘C,’” Fisher said. “There’s no question it’s an honor, and I’m very grateful for the opportunity to wear it for a great organization, great people and a great team. I couldn’t be happier, and I’m excited. I’m looking forward to the season and it’s going to be a fun challenge.”
• Head coach Peter Laviolette has indicated that the Predators leadership core is Fisher, James Neal, Roman Josi and Pekka Rinne.

► Report: Reway Could Miss Season

• Speculation arose once the announcement of Martin Reway’s absence from a much anticipated upcoming Canadiens traning camp, now it has been revealed the Czech winger is in the Intensive Care Unit.
• According to a spokeswoman from the Martin University Hospital, Reway is currently in the ICU, however, no further information was disclosed in accordance with Reway’s wishes.
• “The state of health of Martin Reway has an embargo. The patient does not want us to inform the public. I can only confirm that he was lying in intensive care at the Department of Pneumology and Physiology,” the spokeswoman told website cas.sk.
• That said, The Hockey News is reporting that “Martin Reway was ruled out of training camp with a “virus,” and the 21-year-old is reportedly suffering from heart inflammation that could keep him out of action all season.”
• The hyper-talented forward would’ve been in contention for one of many open spots on this Canadiens roster, most notably of which would’ve been in the team’s top-six.
• Following years of doubt over whether Reway would come to North America, most notably mentioning how he valued a Czech league title over a Stanley Cup, he signed an entry-level contract this summer.

► Explaining Galchenyuk’s Omission

• With nearly a month until “we’re not looking too far ahead” will become a staple on Canadiens pre-game shows, it’s never too premature for Alex Galchenyuk’s name to be present in debates.
• TSN’s John Lu mildly tamed a spark that’s been lit among the Canadiens fan base who enjoy recreational outrage, shedding a light on Galchenyuk’s omission from team North America’s roster.
• “#TeamNA McLellan says Trocheck filled specific need (PK, taking faceoffs R-handed). Not an issue of “choosing him over (#Habs) Galchenyuk.” Tweeted Lu this past week.
• However, as one commenter pointed out, regardless of this explanation, this still means the team selected Edmonton’s Ryan Nugent-Hopkins over one of the Canadiens’ two 30-goal scorers.

► Markov Eased In

• Following an admission from his trainer earlier this summer to Canadiens.com, Andrei Markov looks once again to be in great shape coming into this season, evidently not enough so for team Russia however.
  Tom Gulitti of NHL.com reported that Markov had been omitted from the team’s top-six, taking reps during practice as the Russian squad’s seventh blueliner.
• “Markov is the extra D today and Datsyuk looks to be the extra forward. He took rushes as Markov’s D partner,” Gulitti announced on his Twitter account.
• Furthermore, the Canadiens’ Alexei Emelin is in the lineup over Markov, not only that, Emelin’s lining up alongside Tampa Bay’s Nikita Nesterov on the team’s second pairing according to Le Journal de Montreal.
• Last season, Markov recorded his second-highest career point total since 2009 with 44 points in 82 games, only missing two games over the course of the last four seasons, both of which were due to rest.

► Flyers Crowned Champs

• The release of NHL 17 will officially snap fans back into hockey season, and following a simulation of a full season on the game, a conclusion that won’t happen was reached.
• The Hockey News ran a simulation of the NHL season and the Philadelphia Flyers, with former Canadien Dale Weise, won the Stanley Cup, triumphing 4-2 over the Los Angeles Kings.
• The Canadiens reached the postseason, for some ludicrous reason antithetical to some’s thoughts, with 102 points, good enough for third in the Atlantic division, behind Florida and Tampa Bay, the latter of which they beat in the first round of the playoffs prior to getting eliminated by Pittsburgh in the proceeding series.
• The Panthers topped the NHL with 113 points, followed by Tampa and Montreal who rounded out the top-three in the NHL, both the Flyers and Oilers won their respective divisions in this simulation.

► Selanne Signing Aho’s Praises

• Sebastian Aho was the eldest of the three Finnish forward who led their country to glory at last season’s World Juniors, and perhaps the most impactful once he arrives in Carolina, a big emphasis on perhaps.
• During a recent interview on NHL.com, Teemus Selanne, one of the greatest, if not the greatest, Finish players of all time was very complimentary towards the Hurricanes prospect when asked about him.
• “I was here for the [2016] World Juniors, and if somebody said he was the best player for Finland in the tournament, it was pretty close. He was unbelievable. Same thing in the Finnish League. He was actually a better player than Laine or [Jesse] Puljujarvi,” said the Finish Flash.
• “I’m expecting he is going to be really good hockey player anywhere he plays. [Tuesday] in practice he was playing defense, and if you didn’t know he was a forward you would say, wow, he’s a good defenseman,” finished the future Hall-Of-Famer.

► Holy Man

• Team North America’s opening pre-tournament action produced an exhilarating brand of hockey, that should be the most riveting in the tournament, and now they’ve put together an incredible line.
• According to the aforementioned John Lu, Todd McLellan put Johnny Gaudreau, Connor McDavid and Jack Eichel on the same line is preparation for the team’s upcoming game.
• The rest of the lines are as follows according to Lu: Matthews-Scheifele-Saad, Drouin-Nugent-Hopkins-MacKinnon and Larkin/Miller-Couturier-Trocheck.
• Not Gaudreau, nor Eichel, nor McDavid has spent time on the same team prior to the team’s first game, a game that saw instant chemistry between McDavid and Gaudreau.
• The line of Jonathan Drouin, Ryan Nugent Hopkins and Nathan Mackinnon is also chock-full of explosiveness, however one could only simulate the lines proficiency with Galchenyuk taking Nugent-Hopkins’ spot.
