	On this day in hockey history… 1978 — Chicago’s Bobby Orr scored the final goal, his 270th, of his NHL career.  1979 — Quebec Nordiques hosted the Montreal Canadiens for the first time at Le Colisee in Quebec City, and beat the visiting Montreal Canadiens, 5-4.  2003 — Colorado Avalanche retired Patrick Roy’s No. 33 sweater number in a pre-game ceremony, and went on to win the game, 4-2 over the visiting Calgary Flames.

► Day off

• The Canadiens have the day off on Wednesday following their game against the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday night. Here is our game report: Recap – Canadiens vs Canucks: Habs Held Back From Record-Tying Win
• The Habs will meet the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday night with games against the Flames and Jets rounding out the rest of the week. For a preview of the games ahead read: Weekly Forecast: Canadiens Face Western Foes

► Reway demoted

• The ongoing drama surrounding Martin Reway continues with reports surfacing that the Canadiens prospect will play for HC Slovan Bratislava of the KHL. It is the same club who currently employs former Habs first-round pick Louis Leblanc. As time of publishing the hockey club is denying the deal.
• In the past week, Reway’s team Sparta Praha demoted the 20-year-old after a dispute over icetime with head coach Josef Jandač went public.
• The turmoil is just one more chapter in the development of a talented player who has been compared to a spoiled child.

► Big heart

• Canadiens star goaltender Carey Price is known for having a big heart towards his birthplace of Anahim Lake, BC and has once again given back to the region.
• Partnered with CCM, Price donated thousands of dollars of goaltending equipment to the Williams Lake Minor Hockey association.
• Pam Povelofskie, the minor hockey administrator for the region spoke about the kids’ need for the equipment saying, “As kids get to bantam and midget they tend to have their own sets but there are some kids who need our help so we’re going to be providing them with some brand new shiny equipment.”
• “He wants to make sure that people, and kids especially, know that he hasn’t forgotten and hasn’t just elevated himself to the point where he doesn’t have time for people who matter most to him,” said Carey’s father Jerry.

► Another star

• Canadiens defenceman Andrei Markov was the NHL’s second star of the week this week with a six point output in three games.
• Washington Capitals centreman Evgeny Kuznetsov and L.A. Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick were the other two stars.
• Five out of Markov’s six points came in a game against the Buffalo Sabres in which he also recorded his first goal of the season, beating Chad Johnson five-hole.
• Markov also recorded his 500th career point on Max Pacioretty’s game winning goal and refused to give himself credit after the game saying “Maybe I just got lucky today.”
• Defence partner P.K. Subban compared him to one of the all-time greats saying “I compare him to Nick Lidstrom. They’re very similar. They go a whole night and you don’t notice them and then you look at the stat sheet and he’s a plus player with a couple of points and between 25 and 29 minutes of ice time.”

► I would’ve cried

• At Canadiens practice on Monday Max Pacioretty was streaking in on Carey Price in a drill and fired his shot right into the MVP’s crotch.
• Now, Pacioretty has one of the, if the, heaviest wrist shots in the NHL so that must’ve killed regardless of the protective equipment he was wearing.
• Price continued the drill afterwards but was noticeably irritated when it was finished, as one is when something like this happens.

► Scarier than the Bruins

• Nathan Beaulieu and Brendan Gallagher went to a haunted house for the Canadiens’ website and the results are fantastic.

► The worst ice in the league

• Yahoo’s hockey blog “Puck Daddy” took a poll with 27 NHL players and asked them who they believed to have the worst ice in the NHL, most of the results were expected.
• As could’ve been predicted, the Florida Panthers’ ice was ranked the worst with 12 votes and cities in warmer climates closed out the top four with the Ducks, the Kings and the Lightning ranked from second worst to fourth worst. All the aforementioned team had four votes.
• The other six teams that were voted had a vote each in Carolina, Chicago, New Jersey, New York (Rangers), Washington and Vancouver. Three out of those six teams share their rink with another sports team.

P.K., the brand

• Daily Vice posted a brief feature on Canadiens defenceman P.K. Subban as part of its daily focus on Canadian news and culture.

► Locking up their youth

• The Nashville Predators have signed 25-year old defenceman Mattias Ekholm to a six-year contract extension worth $3.75 million annually.
• Most of the ‘Preds’ back end is locked up for the foreseeable future with Roman Josi and Shea Weber having long-term contracts.
• This is the first large move for the Predators within their organization as the club still has Fillip Forsberg and Seth Jones to sign in the upcoming offseason.
• Ekholm, who’s highest point total to this point is 18, is solid insulation behind Weber and Josi and, alongside Ryan Ellis and Seth Jones, makes up one of the best defensive cores in the NHL.
• The Swede is off to a good start with four points in eight games and a plus-three rating on a very good Nashville Predators team.

► Next man up

• The Florida Panthers were dealt a big blow this week when they learned the news that their number one centreman, Aleksander Barkov, suffered a broken hand.
• He good news came a couple days later when it was revealed that Barkov wouldn’t need surgery and would only be out two-four weeks.
• With Sasha Barkov out Nick Bjugstad was bumped up to the first line to play alongside Jaromir Jagr and Jonathan Huberdeau, Dave Bolland is now centring the second line and Shawn Thornton has been reintegrated into the lineup.
• The blossoming power forward had 36 points and 16 goals last season but was off to a hot start with three points and as many assists in six games between Jagr and Huberdeau.
