	On this day in hockey history… 1945 — Gordie Howe (at age 16) signed his first professional hockey contract, with the Omaha Knights of the United States Hockey League.  1952 — Jacques Plante, called up by Montreal to replace injured goalie Gerry McNeil, beat NY Rangers 4-1, in his first NHL start. In his three game replacement trial he went 2-0-1 giving up only four goals, before being returned to the Montreal Royals.

► Game Day

• The Canadiens skated in Brossard on Sunday morning prior to their matchup with the Winnipegt Jets on Sunday night. For a Game Day preview see: Jets vs Canadiens – Preview, Lines, Goalies, TV, Fantasy
• Mike Condon will start in goal with news breaking today that Carey Price has been placed on injured reserve with a lower body injury. Dustin Tokarski has been recalled from the St. John’s IceCaps.
• Price sustained the injury in the game against the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday. He will be eligible to return one week from Thursday if healthy enough to do so.

► Bears comeback to down IceCaps

• The Canadiens AHL affiliate, the St. John’s IceCaps are on a six-game road trip in Pennsylvania. They split a two-game series in Allentown earlier in the week.
• On Saturday night they took an early lead then allowed four straight goals by Hershey to suffer their second loss of the road trip. ► McCarron playing well

• Canadiens prospect Michael McCarron had a great training camp. His good play has continued with the IceCaps as he adjusts to his first pro year in the AHL.
• IceCaps Hockey Report caught up with McCarron for an interview.

► Kovalev regrets leaving

• In an interview with RDS’ “L’Antichambre” for Canadiens folk hero Alex Kovalev divulged that he regrets his decision to leave the town in which he was so beloved.
• “It was a big mistake on my part. I think some of it was the fault of my agent, but it was mine. I must admit it’s my ego that has sinned. In my years in Montreal, I thought I had done a lot for the team, but I could do more. I thought then that I deserved more respect and I was disappointed. So I decided to take a different path,” said Kovalev.
• “I don’t want to say anything bad about Ottawa, I had a good time and it’s a good organization, but it’s always hard to leave a place where you spent a long period of time because of relationships you have created there. Some things I missed when I was in Ottawa. “
• After leaving the Canadiens for the Senators in 2009-10 he had 36 goals and 88 points in 165 games with the ‘Sens, Penguins and Panthers.

► Audette goes down

• Following a red hot start to his 2015-16 campaign Canadiens prospect Daniel Audette will be on the shelf for the next four weeks minimum after separating his elbow.
• The injury occurred when Audette collided with fellow Canadiens farmhand Simon Bourque in a game versus the Rimouski Océanic on October 29th.
• In his first 15 games this season the son of Donald had eight goals and 25 points accompanied by a plus-1 rating.
• Last season Audette lead the Sherbrooke Phoenix in points with 73 and was the team’s second leading goal scorer with 29 in 60 games.

► Rejected

• Just like opposing general managers last season this little boy wasn’t buying what Alexei Emelin was selling.
• After the Canadiens’ 6-2 win against the Calgary Flames on Friday night Habs defenceman Alexei Emelin wanted to be nice to a young Canadiens fan by giving him his stick but the young patron refused the gift multiple times before Emelin was already out of arm’s length.

► Got to love a free-be

• After undergoing a makeover prior to the beginning of the season the Montreal Canadiennes have sent out another marketing ploy.
• The team has posted the entirety of their 5-2 win on Sunday October 18th against the Brampton Thunder online for all to view for free.
• Prior to Saturday’s matchup versus the Toronto Furies the team’s leading goal scorers were offseason acquisition Marie-Philip Poulin and veteran Caroline Ouellette with five points respectively.
• Before facing off with the Furies the Canadiennes were tied for tops in the CWHL with a possible four points out of four, the Calgary Inferno were in the same situation.

► Time to reflect

• Longtime Philadelphia Flyers forward Daniel Briere decided to retire last month and has tried different things post on-ice career but the forward got together with Rogers Hometown Hockey to look back on his relatively illustrious career.
• Briere decided to end his career following a one year stint with the Colorado Avalanche which was preceded by playing for his hometown Canadiens.
• In 973 career NHL games the man known to few as “Danny B” scored 307 goals and had 696 points.
• The diminutive forward made his living during the spring were he had 53 goals and 116 points in 124 games. He had three goals and seven points in 16 games with the Canadiens in the 2013-14 playoffs despite playing the majority of the playoffs on the fourth line.

► A quite night for Phil

• After six years in Toronto Madison, Wisconsin native Phil Kessel returned to the place he called home from 2009-15 and the response from his previous organization was underwhelming.
• Lou Lamoriello (whom Elliotte Friedman noted isn’t a tributes guy) and the Maple Leafs organization provided no video tribute to the five-time 30 goal scorer in his return back to the six, as people now call it because evidently it’s cool.
• The decision was met by mixed reactions on social media, where everything is decided now, but Hockey Night in Canada host George Stroumboulopoulos provided some of his insight on the matter “Why should they give Phil Kessel a tribute? You know what he accomplished in Toronto? Nothing.”
• The ‘Pens ended up taking the game by the score of 4-0 and the man that the Toronto media all but broke didn’t record a point in his team’s triumph.

► Why would there be?

• In a game versus the Florida Panthers, Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand drilled ‘Cats defenceman Dmitry Kulikov for behind into the boards and the NHL has made their decision on the incident.
• The National Hockey League has decided not to suspend or even fine the Halifax, Nova Scotia native after his hit from behind.
  Kulikov, who was suspended himself last season for taking out Tyler Seguin’s knee, suffered a broken nose on the play.
• Marchand gave his opinion on the play “I just saw the replay and he was a little off-balanced and I just pushed him. It’s not like I buried him hard, or anything like that. It’s unfortunate, obviously … I didn’t mean to bury him from behind. Things happen quickly.”
• The 5’9 winger was off to a great start with five goals and four assists in eight games on an unsurprisingly middle of the pack Boston Bruins team.
• Kulikov didn’t end up missing any game action which probably attributed to Marchand not facing any supplemental discipline from the league. The Russian defenceman has three assists in 11 games this season with the upstart Panthers.
