► Practice day!
- The Canadiens practiced on Tuesday in Colorado. They play the Avalanche on Wednesday night.
- Michel Therrien punished his players by running a practiced filled with line skating. Lars Eller said, “I won’t call it a wake-up call, but I guess you can call it a punishment. And it was well-deserved. I guarantee everybody felt their legs out there today.”

► Weise not yet approached
- Thirteen days prior to the NHL trade deadline rumours have been swirling about Dale Weise’s amorphous future following a report by LaPresse.
- According to Richard Labbé of LaPresse, the Winnipeg, Manitoba native has not garnered an offer from the Canadiens.
- Weise is having a career-year with a career-high 12 goals and is on pace to eclipse his career-high 29 point total of he preceding season.
- With Canadiens’ unencumbered play, even in victory, one would presume the Habs would become sellers come February 29th however being relatively close to a playoff spot this desperate management team might go contrary to popular belief.
- Weise had a torrent start to his 2015-2016 campaign however has significantly dropped off, along with the rest of the roster, over the last two or more months. To the point he was demoted to fourth line duties over the past couple games.
- “I’m playing well, I’m proud of my play,” said Weise. “Obviously, it was going better at the beginning of the season, but everybody was doing better than right now.”
► A lack of concentration, SO THATS IT!
- As the Canadiens slip further and further into the abyss of mediocrity, Michel Therrien has done it, he’s identified the problem, and the Habs will now make playoffs.
- “We worked hard, we had 22 scoring chances and they had 11, maybe 12, but we made some huge mistakes,” said the Habs’ cynosure prior to last night’s tilt in Arizona. “We had turnovers, missed coverages.”
- He went on to point out a mistake made by one of the team’s assistant captains, Andrei Markov “Andrei knows he can’t be doing that; it’s a lack of concentration,” he told the Montreal Gazette.
- With the playoffs an ever elusive possibility, Therrien went on to say, “All we can do is try to win the next game”.
► Not a goal scorer, it can’t be!
- Mike Cammalleri was the last game-breaking goal scorer to pass through Montreal and now a young Canadiens forward is drawing comparisons to the one-time unabating hero.
- Alex Galchenyuk found the back of the net twice in a loss to the Buffalo Sabres with both of the goals from the right half-wall drawing comparisons to Mike Cammalleri.
- “I remember Cammalleri, but you don’t want to tell Chucky that; it might go to his head,” said Brendan Gallagher. “Chucky has such a great, shot and I’m not surprised when he scores.”
- Through his first three 60+ game seasons in the NHL Cammalleri had 26, 34 and 19 goals respectively. Galchenyuk has 13, 20 and is on pace for 21 this season.
► Stamkos not moving, for now
- There’s less than half of the season to go and with the trade deadline becoming ever the more present in the minds of fans and management alike, Steve Yzerman has made his decision on his Captain.
- In a statement released today, the former Red Wing Captain announced that he would not be trading Steven Stamkos and would look to sign him prior to, or during, the offseason.
- “As February 29th approaches, I am stating today that Steven Stamkos will not be traded before the NHL’s trade deadline. I have said repeatedly that it is our hope to reach an agreement with Steven on a new contract at some point […] our entire organization, Steven included, wants to focus on making the playoffs […],”
- Nick Kypreos sent the hockey world into a frenetic frenzy following his prediction that the Canadiens would land the former first overall pick in free agency this summer, we shall see.
► Kane Suspended
- A large majority of the Canadiens fan base was clamouring for the acquisition of Evander Kane after the Jets put him on the trade market last season following an off-ice incident and history has repeated itself.
- Buffalo Sabres head coach Dan Bylsma scratched the winger for last night’s game against Ottawa after he slept in and missed the team’s practice.
- “Evander Kane missed practice. Broke a team rule,” Bylsma told the media prior to that night’s game. “We will be dealing with it internally.”
- Kane was suspended by the Jets last season after showing up for a team meeting in the infamous track suit, he later shut himself down for the season after a trade to Buffalo.
- The former fourth overall pick is in the midst of his lowest points per game season since his soft more campaign of 2010-11 when he had .58 points per game, he has .51 in 2015-16.
► Stuart out more than a month
- The Winnipeg Jets will be without defenceman Mark Stuart for the next four to six weeks following breaking his hand while blocking a shot.
- Before his egress out of the lineup Stuart was lining up alongside Jacob Trouba on the team’s second defensive pairing with Tyler Myers playing on the third pairing with Ben Chariot.
- As is the case with former Canadiens top-six forward Brian Flynn, Stuart could miss the rest of the regular season and with the Jets’ playoff hopes coextensive to those of the Canadiens, his year is likely over.
- With the former 21st overall pick out of the lineup, Adam Pardy and Paul Postma will get opportunities to supplant a roster spot from someone like Chariot come next season.
- In 55 games with the disenchanted Jets in 2015-15, the stay at home defenceman has three points and a minus-10 rating.
