	On this day in hockey history… 1988 — New York’s Marcel Dionne became the first player in NHL history to get 20 goals in each of his first 17 seasons.  1989 — Bernie Nicholls scored his 49th and 50th goals of the season in his 51st game, and set a team record with 13 shots in the game, as the Kings lost to the Oilers, 7-6 at the Forum. 1992 — BBrett Hull became just the second player in NHL history to record back to back seasons of 50 goals in 50 games (Wayne Gretzky had done so in 1983 & 1984). He scored #50 in a 3-3 Blues’ tie at Los Angeles.

► Habs on break, IceCaps on the road

• The Canadiens will not be back on the ice until February 2nd when they face the Philadelphia Flyers. P.K. Subban is the lone exception as he will be Montreal’s representative at the NHL All-Star game in Nashville.
• Regarding the time off, Michel Therrien said, “It’s important to take a break, especially when you’re going through a tough time like we are. We just need to be conscious that there’s going to be a lot of work to do once we get back.”

• The St. John’s IceCaps are in the midst of a six-game road trip with two wins in four games.  They will complete the road trip with a game in Portland on Friday and in Hartford on Saturday.

► Carr out three months

• The Canadiens have lost standout rookie Daniel Carr for the next three months following an injury his right knee in Monday night’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
• The Sherwood Park, Alberta native will be out for an extended period of time after colliding with the end boards and Fedor Tyutin in the team’s first loss to the Jackets.
• In 19 games in his rookie season, Carr scored five goals and added three assists and led the team in goals during this penultimate past couple of months.
• The 24-year old was also one of the team’s cynosures in puck possession and was once sent to the AHL but was then recalled soon thereafter.
• Carr was an undrafted free agent and attended Blackhawks camp, among others, prior to signing with the Canadiens in 2014.

► Ellis is an All-Star

• St. John’s IceCaps defenceman Morgan Ellis is a late addition to the AHL All-Star squad.  Ellis and Michael McCarron will represent the IceCaps this weekend in Syracuse, NY.
• Ellis is the IceCaps top scoring defenceman with 10 goals and 13 assists for 23 points along with a plus-12 ranking.

► De La Rose to the AHL

• The Canadiens have (temporarily) sent Jacob De La Rose to the AHL.
• The Swede will likely be called up prior to the team’s game next Tuesday and was sent down to get him some playing time during the Habs week off. The IceCaps play three times in the interim.
• De La Rose was thrust back into the Habs lineup after the stress of the aforementioned Daniel Carr out of the team’s lineup.
• In the trio of games the 6-foot-3-inch forward played, he failed to record a point however he did garner a plus-1 rating.
• The former second round pick saw playing time alongside Torrey Mitchell and Devante Smith-Pelly along with Lars Eller following the injury the Max Pacioretty.
• De La Rose began his 2015-16 campaign in the AHL where he recorded nine points in 24 games and was recalled once Carr and Sven Andrighetto were demoted.

► Weise’s got a new fan

• Dale Weise’s role diminished considerably over the course of the pair of pernicious losses at the hands of the Columbus Blue Jackets but at least he made someone happy Tuesday night.
• The Manitoban flipped a puck over the glass and right into the hands of a father who won’t be garnering much sleep with that story in his children’s minds.
• Weise had a bounce-back game of sorts Tuesday, getting more involved physically and generated chances on a fourth line comprised of himself, Torrey Mitchell and Jacob De la Rose.
• The winger has a career-high 11 goals in 2015-16 and is on pace to supplant his previous career-high in points of 29 last season. He has 21 in 46 games this season.

► Adams hangs ’em up

• Battle-scarred veteran Craig Adams has announced his retirement following going unsigned through a couple months of the season.
• Adams, who spent his entire NHL career with only three teams, Carolina, Chicago and Pittsburgh, was a two-time Stanley Cup champion and has more Cups than the entire Canadiens roster.
• The former ninth round pick finished his career 49 games why of the 1000 game mark, an impressive mark for a player with only 160 career points.
• The bellwether also played 106 career playoff games and tallied seven goals and 12 points with 74 penalty minutes.
• Adams spent his last seven seasons in the NHL with the Penguins organization.
• “I consider myself very lucky to have been able to live out my dream of playing in the NHL. […] Thanks for the good times, the laughs and the memories.”

► Horcoff suspended

• Stéphane Quintal has suspended former Oilers captain Shawn Horcoff for 20 games after the veteran violated the league’s performance enhancing substances program.
• This suspension puts an unfortunate black eye on an otherwise remunerative career that’s seen him play 994 games and go to a Stanley Cup final in 2005-06.
• Horcoff, never a team’s most proficient scorer, has a career-high in points of 73 in that 2005-06 season that saw the Oilers lose to the Carolina Hurricanes in games seven of the Stanley Cup final.
• The centreman was in and out of the Ducks lineup with the acquisition of Ryan Garbutt significantly limiting his playing time.
• Horcoff offered this reasoning, “While recovering from an injury I suffered this past fall, I tried a treatment that I believed would help speed up the healing process.” He went on to hold himself accountable.

► Thornton reaches a milestone

• The long, illustrious and recently turbulent career of Joe Thornton has reached another milestone after the centreman recorded his 1,300th point on Tuesday night.
• Thornton now has 1,300 career points, 933 of which were assists, in 1,333 games he spent with San Jose and Boston.
• Despite his team’s pervasively recognized mediocrity during the post-season, “Jumbo Joe” has 24 goals and 100 points in 132 playoff games.
• The former first overall pick was dealt to the Sharks in 2005-06 while in the midst of a season where he would take home the Art Ross and Hart memorial trophies.
• Thornton reached the achievement in the way he recorded the majority of his points, with a pair of assists and also improved his point streak to 10 games.
