On this day in hockey history… 1992 — Manon Rheaume became the first woman ever to play in an NHL exhibition game, when she played in goal for the Lightning. She made 7 saves and gave up two goals in one period in a game against the Blues, in Tampa Bay.  1991 — Bob Pulford, Mike Bossy, Denis Potvin, coach Scotty Bowman, and veteran Clint Smith were inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, at a ceremony in Ottawa, Ontario.

  • Lines and defense pairings at morning skate on September 23rd

  • Injury updates

Noah Juulsen – broken foot, out six weeks 
Josh Brook – wrist surgery, out three months

► Waivers for Redmond

  •  Defenseman Zach Redmond has been placed on waivers by the Canadiens. It is expected that he will clear waivers and provide veteran leadership for the Laval Rocket.
  • Adding another NHL capable depth defenceman to the AHL roster helps build what could be a team that challenges for the division crown this season.

► More camp cuts

  • Markus Eisenschmid and Michael McNiven have been released from Canadiens main camp and will report to Laval Rocket training camp.

► Habs Red-White game raises money for charity

  • The Canadiens Children’s Foundation has announced that more than $71,000 was raised at the annual Red vs White intrasquad game on September 17th at the Bell Centre.
  • All proceeds from this event will go to the Canadian Tire BLEU BLANC BOUGE in Action program, an initiative that enables underprivileged kids to be more active through skating lessons. 

► Devils center Boyle facing major challenge

  • Brian Boyle received bad news after blood tests during pre-season physicals revealed he has leukemia.
  • Speaking to Tom Gulitti of NHL.com, Boyle said “”I feel very fortunate and very blessed. We’ve had a tremendous outpouring of prayers, and if there’s anything I can ask it’s that that continues. That is something that I’ve seen firsthand heal cancers and heal situations that are said to be untreatable. For us, we’re in a good spot. We think we have a good plan of attack here and I’m looking forward to getting on the ice and playing.”
  • Boyle said that his focus is to be in the lineup for the season opener on October 7th vs. the Colorado Avalanche.

► Joffrey Lupul to be examined by NHL doctors

  • The Joffrey Lupul saga continues. As you will remember Lupul took issue with Toronto Maple Leafs medical staff after failing a physical.
  • “I responded earlier this week to some negative comments on Instagram. It was an inappropriate response, and I deleted it, but I take full responsibility. It’s been extremely tough not being able to play over the past 1.5 years. I will not be seeking a second opinion, but I hope one day to be able to get back on the ice. I apologize to the media, fans, Leafs organization, and most of all my teammates for this unneeded distration,” Lupul posted.
  • While Lupul will not be seeking a second opinion on his failed physical, the NHL intends to have an independent doctor determine if the 33-year-old is healthy enough to participate in the season.

►Max Fortier takes cut from Canadiens Camp in stride

  • Maxime Fortier returned to the Halifax Mooseheads the day he was cut from Canadiens camp on a tryout basis.  While he did turn some heads with his solid play, he did not do enough to earn an NHL or AHL contract.
  • The 20-year-old was named team captain of the Mooseheads by head coach Jim Midgley. 
  • Fortier had two goals in a 4-1 victory over the Saint John Sea Dogs in the Mooseheads season opener. The captain was named the second star of the game.

► Vegas Golden Knights take aim at Canadiens

  • In a salty twitter exchange, the expansion Golden Knights took aim at the Canadiens and their Championship pedigree, which has many in the hockey community either amused, or incensed.

  • As fans began bantering about the merits of this exchange, the mic drop came from an unlikely source, the defunct Atlanta Thrashers parody account walked away with the Gold

►Calgary arena dispute gets public

  • The negotiations surrounding the proposed new arena for the Flames in Calgary went public as all sides traded barbs in the media.
  • Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi wasn’t particularly helpful offering these comments, “The city has a very fair offer on the table, I think one that many Calgarians – most Calgarians – will see as eminently reasonable. And there is another offer on the table that most Calgarians will see as eminently unreasonable.”
  • The new arena slated to be in Victoria Park will cost in the neighborhood of $500 million.

► Duchene does his talking on the ice

  • Matt Duchene had a goal in pre-season action helping his Colorado Avalanche defeat the Dallas Stars 5-1.
  • Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar had positive words for the play of Duchene, “I’ve talked to him. I think he’s come back a motivated player and he’s playing with two other new players and that line’s been good all training camp and they were good again tonight.”
