On this day in hockey history

1971 — Montreal’s Jean Beliveau scored three goals, including the 500th of his career, and added an assist as the Canadiens beat the Minnesota North Stars 6-2, at the Forum. It was Beliveau’s 18th (and final) NHL hat trick.

Petry makes it 500

  • Jeff Petry marked a special accomplishment as he played his 500th NHL game vs the Predators last night. Congratulations Jeff!

Petry racking up the honors

  • Petry was also given the Biosteel Performer of the Week after his three goal Super Bowl weekend.

Brass on the road

  • For those who put a lot of stock in these things, GM Marc Bergevin has been spotted at the Rangers vs Flames game and Blackhawks vs Wild.
  • Scott Mellanby is taking in Blues vs Penguins on Sunday afternoon.

Trade deadline chatter

  • On Hockey Night in Canada, Nick Kypreos speculated that the San Jose Sharks and Pittsburgh Penguins have interest in Tomas Plekanec. Elliotte Friedman added that the Canadiens may re-sign Plekanec.

  • Tomas Plekanec has now scored 600 points in the NHL.
  • He now has 601 points in 976 games played, all in a Canadiens uniform.

Danault joins teammates

  • Phillip Danault has taken a big step forward in his recovery from his concussion as he joined his teammates for an optional skate on Saturday February 10th.

No hard feelings?

  • After a hard fought battle on Saturday night, there were some uncharacteristic emotional comments in the post game scrum by Brendan Gallagher.
  • “I don’t know why we’re talking about him. That’s what he wants. You can let him talk about himself all night. I’m sure he’ll give you guys enough lines. I’m not going to help that out.” – Brendan Gallagher
  • P.K. Subban was asked about Brendan Gallagher’s smile following his goal. Subban said, “I didn’t see a smile from him tonight, to be honest with you. I just saw the blood dripping down his face when he tried to hit me and fell down. So that’s what I saw. I didn’t see anything else. Other than that, it was just a normal game as usual, just competing in the battles and that’s it. Just trying to outwork the other guy on the other side.”
