► Canadiens Sign Lindgren

  • Jimmy Veesey is the most conspicuous college player currently available but the Canadiens’ acquisition of goaltender Charles Lindberg could be an insidiously large signing.
  • Montreal signed the 22-year old netminder to a two-year entry level contract of which the fiscal terms of the deal were not discerned.
  • Lindberg, a right handed shot, is currently second in the NCAA in wins with 30 behind Martin Garteig who has 31, and set a St. Cloud State Division 1 record with the aforementioned win total.
  • The Lakeville, Minnesota native was a finalist for the Mike Richter trophy which is an award given to the best goaltender in college hockey.
  • Along with his 30-9-1 record, Lindgren recorded five shutouts, sported a 2.13 goals against average and a .925 save percentage with St. Cloud State this season.
  • Lindgren has joined the Canadiens following his team’s exodus for playoff contention, it is unknown at this moment when he will make his first start.

► Scrivens Waived

  • The Canadiens have waived former Ben Scrivens, and went unclaimed, proceeding the signing of goaltender Charles Lindgren out of the NCAA.
  • The Canadiens garnered Scrivens in a transaction that sent troubled forward Zack Kassian to the Oilers, who with Laurent Brossoit and Cam Talbot are set between the pipes.
  • In the 15 games the 29-year old backstop spent in Montreal he posted a 3.07 goals against average, a .906 save percentage and recorded five wins in 13 starts.
  • The Spruce Grove, Alberta native will be headed for the St. John’s Ice Caps although with the recent play of Eddie Pasquale one would wonder if Fucale or Scrivens could be further demoted.

► Price Returns to Practice

  • A day after the team announced that the former MVP would be present on the team’s trip to Florida, Carey Price returned to practiced with his teammates for the first time since the second incarnation of his injury.
  • Last week Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin commented on a question on shutting down his star backstop saying that April 9th was the cut off date to judge whether he would play again his season.
  • Habs coach Michel Therrien commented on Price’s attempted return “Carey Price is working hard on the ice and in the gym with the goal to play this season.” according to Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports.
  • Price continued his excellence for the preceding season early on in 2015-16, with a 10-2-0 record, a .934 save percentage and a 2.06 goals against average.

► Tried to Warn Him…

  • Following the NFL getting sued for concussions that destroyed the post-football lives of their sports, the NHL has received the same treatment, but not because they weren’t warned.
  • It came out this week in the Globe and Mail that Canadiens owner Geoff Molson and Predators Chairman Tom Cigarran both emailed Gary Bettman on their concerns about hits to the head.
  • In his emails, the Canadiens owner mentioned the prodigious impact these injuries would have not only to the players in the league but the owners and Bettman’s wallets.
  • As an owner, the NFL lawsuits could put us at risk. Although we are making good progress, I don’t think it’s enough until any head hit is made illegal. I hope we get there soon!”
  • To which Bettman replied that the NHL wasn’t in the same boat and didn’t have the same problem.

► Emelin Not To Be Suspended

  • In a rare 4-3 win against the Detroit Red Wings, Canadiens defenceman Alexei Emelin delivered a hit on Wings standout rookie Dylan Larkin head to the dressing room.
  • Emelin delivered a hit on Larkin without the Michigan native having the puck but otherwise the check was entirely clean.
  • According to Richard Labbé of Le Journal de Montreal, the league will not discern a suspension to the Habs blueliner and will not even review the hit on Larkin.
  • Emelin fought Detroit winger Justin Abdelkater following the collision with the pair of events garnering 10 minutes of penalties on the night, and still be Russian spent upwards of 21 minutes on the ice.

► Habs Eyeing Dubois?

  • With the Canadiens’ season spiralling to an end, the team’s management is gearing up for the event Canadiens fans have been waiting for since approximately mid-January.
  • According to TVA Sports, Trevor Timmins, entirely unsurprisingly, attended a game between Chicoutimi and Cape Breton to, presumably scout top prospect Pierre-Luc Dubois.
  • In 62 games with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles, Dubois scored 42 goals and 99 points, third in the league in points and fourth in the league in goals.
  • The 6’3 centreman also has a meanstreak with the Ste. Agathe, Quebec native recording 112 penalty minutes this season, good enough for 12th in the league and was recently suspended two games for a hit from behind.
  • The Habs currently have the 9th overall pick and Dubois is projected to go in the top ten of the draft, most likely between 5-10.
