Game Report

It was fortunate timing for the Canadiens arrival in Las Vegas. The team is still riding high following the appointment of general manager Kent Hughes, and on the other side, the Golden Knights came into the game losers of five of their previous six games.

And for Montreal, suddenly the power-play has come alive out of a long slumber. The Habs have scored goals in four consecutive games with the man advantage. Tonight Tyler Toffoli scored his seventh of the season and a goal in each game since his return from injury.

But it was the Golden Knights who dominated each period of this game for a total of 90 shots attempts. Sam Montembeault played very well again making some solid saves. That said, his lack of rebound control certainly inflated the Vegas shot totals.

The goaltending story of the night was at the other end of the ice. Golden Knights starter Robin Lehner was not sharp in the Vegas net helping the Canadiens to stay in the game with a couple of goals that he would like back. Lehner was sluggish in his movements prompting Vegas scribes to wonder if he is playing with an injury.

Montembeault will be given the role of being the primary starter for the Canadiens until the NHL trade deadline. After the game. it was announced that Jake Allen will miss eight weeks with a lower-body injury.

Up Next

The Canadiens continue their road trip with a Saturday game in Denver against the Avalanche. The Habs are 1-2-2 since the 10-day road trip began on January 12th.
