 Game Recap:

The Canadiens generated very little offense particularly on the power-play which went 0-for-4 on the night. Coach Michel Therrien grabbed the spotlight benching P.K. Subban for the first half of the third period and refusing to lift Peter Budaj in the last minute for an extra attacker.

 Post-game Chatter

186237429_slideCoach Michel Therrien:

  • “In the third period, we got four shots on net (officially 5 SOG.) When you have momentum, when you’re creating a lot of chances, there’s a reason why you can take your goalie out especially when you’re down by two goals. But when you have four shots on net and you’re down by two goals, there’s no reason.
  • “We generated some offense especially in the first period. We got seven quality scoring chances and they got two and we were down by two goals.”
  • “But I believe that our power-play really hurt us tonight.  It’s a combination that we didn’t execute well and they did a good job. It took away our momentum and the Flyers gained a lot of momentum with their penalty-killing.”
  • “I didn’t like (P.K. Subban‘s) penalty especially after a scrum. It was 20 seconds after (the whistle.) It’s not a hockey play. I was not happy.”
  • “No, not at all (on difficulty juggling seven defensemen.)”
  • “Not at all (on difficulty juggling the lines.)”

Captain Brian Gionta:

  • “They were effective for sure; we just didn’t have enough push back at certain times. We had spurts of it, but a lot of times we had trouble coming through that neutral zone again. You’ve got to give them credit, but at the same time we just didn’t find a way to get our feet moving through there and come up together.”

Flyers coach Craig Berube:

  •  “[Assistant coach Ian] Laperriere handles the P.K.  He does a real good job of scouting the other team and taking away their options, taking away their strengths. I think that’s the biggest thing. The players are doing a great job. Penalty killing is about everybody on the ice being more committed than the power play, blocking shots, clearing pucks, goalies making big saves, so they’re all on the same page. They do a real good job.”
