 Game Recap:

The shot count and the coach’s post-game comments would be very deceiving on this night. While the Canadiens enjoyed a wide edge in shots it was the Devils who had the vast majority of the quality scoring chances. New Jersey crashed the crease, set screens and created havoc in front of the Montreal goal. There was also controversy as Brendan Gallagher had a goal called back.

 Post-game Chatter

186237429_slideCoach Michel Therrien

  • “[The on-ice officials] told us it was a kicking motion called from Toronto. I’m sure that we’re gonna have a chance to talk to them tomorrow. I saw the replay. There’s nothing we can do. We didn’t see any kicking motion because [Brendan Gallagher‘s] feet never left the ice but there’s nothing we can do. Gotta move on.
  • “We came and competed. We were the team that I believe tried to set the pace and I believe that the story of the game was Martin Brodeur. He was phenomenal tonight. (He) kept his team in confidence to win this hockey game.”
  • “New Jersey is a tough team to play against. They’re a team who has a lot of puck possession but we were the team that were attacking and getting some chances and got 30 shots against 19 but I guess that it was one of those nights that you’re facing a hot goalie and it makes a difference.”
