Last game : MTL 3  OTT 2  F/OT   The Habs let a two-goal lead slip away but prevailed in overtime on a goal scored by Ben Chiarot, the first game winning goal of his career. The goal was set up by Max Domi who still isn’t shooting the puck but had two primary assists. Cayden Primeau got his first NHL win making 35 saves in the tight contest.

Players to watch

  • Brett Kulak
    Kulak had a rough start to the season and when Victor Mete went down the Habs needed him to step up. He’s done exactly that. The points aren’t there yet but he’s played a bigger role in the last six games without being on for a goal against.
  • Ryan Poehling
    With Paul Byron unable to go Poehling gets another chance to prove he belongs in the NHL. Poehling played a great game against the Senators using his big frame and strength nearly scoring on more than one occasion.
  • Joel Armia
    This is a game that Armia should be able to take over. The Wings are young team that have a hard time keeping the puck. If Armia plays the way he did against the Penguins, he should be able to find the score sheet.  

Keys to Victory

  • Use their speed
    The Wings are a young team but have a hard time defending speed and tend to give up quite a few odd man rushes.
  • Don’t sit back
    The Habs need to keep their foot on the gas once they get the lead and not let the Wings back in the game like they did against the Senators.
  • Focus on defence
    The Habs defense has been much better over the last week with a significant change to the Julien system.

 What to Expect by Sam Gerber
This is a game that the Canadiens should win. The Habs have to take advantage of this matchup and beat one of the teams when it is expected. The Wings just ended a 12 game losing streak of their own and will not want to go down that road again. A loss tonight will hurt the Habs playoff chances as they sit three points back behind the final wildcard spot but still find themselves third in the Atlantic.
