Game Preview by Sam Gerber |
Last game : MTL 3 CBJ 2 The game wasn’t pretty but the Canadiens got a victory. Max Domi didn’t have a good game but potted his 20th goal of the year. Paul Byron scored in his return from injury. The Habs weren’t ready to start the second period and the Blue Jackets took advantage. With a one goal lead with less than ten minutes to play in the game, Brett Kulak was caught deep and Domi was flatfooted. The Blue Jackets tied it up. Shortly after, Tomas Tatar scored the game winner after a great pass from Jordie Benn. The Habs managed to hang on to win thanks to brilliant goaltending from Carey Price.
For a complete game recap: Habs Back on Winning Track
Players to watch
- Paul Byron
Byron is the a unique player who has the speed to generate scoring chances in any game.
- Phillip Danault
Danault just celebrated the birth of his first son but will back to business tonight and will help Claude Julien to balance the Habs lines.
- Victor Mete
It is only a matter of time until Mete scores his first NHL goal. He has had dozens of opportunities in the defensive end.
Keys to Victory
- Provide puck support
The Canadiens defense love to jump up and pinch but have been making poor decisions. In addition, forwards have not effectively supported each other which has cost goals.
- Get traffic
Carter Hart gives the Flyers a chance to win every game and is very sound positional. The Habs have to make it hard for him, get in the crease, bump him around, dig at rebounds and block his vision, to get the young goalie to unravel.
- Win special teams
The Habs power-play is back to rock bottom. It is costing them points and affects how teams play.

What to Expect by Sam Gerber |
The Flyers have started to make things interesting. They have been one of the hottest teams in the league since their management changes and are a dark horse to make the playoffs. A big part of the Flyers’ turnaround has been the play of goaltender Carter Hart with a .920 save percentage. It should be a good goalie match-up. The Flyers may need the points more than Montreal but the home team can’t afford to lose many more games in the final stretch of the season. |
