Game Preview by Elias Laradi |
Last game : MTL 5 NJD 4 (SO) The Canadiens completed a thrilling, comeback win over the lowly New Jersey Devils. Back in Newark, Ilya Kovalchuk was greeted by boos from the fans in Newark but scored the game-deciding goal. Charlie Lindgren was perfect in the shootout, earning his first win of the season.
For a complete game recap: Kovalchuk, Lindgren Shootout Heroes for Habs
Players to watch
- Joel Armia
Armia scored his 14th goal of the season on Monday, a new career high. The winger is just four points away from setting another career milestone.
- Ilya Kovalchuk
Although Kovalchuk has not scored in the past three games, he has contributed to Habs offence with 10 points in 13 games. Kovalchuk recorded nine points in 17 games with the Kings earlier this season.
- Dale Weise
Weise hoped that his fight with John Hayden against the Devils would change the direction of the game. Will he drop the gloves with former Canadien Nicolas Deslauriers?
Keys to Victory
- Start strong
Perhaps slowed by the flu, the Habs had a weak start in New Jersey. Buoyed by an emotional comeback win, the Canadiens need a strong start at home.
- Be better while short-handed
The Canadiens penalty-kill led by Phillip Danault gave up two goals to a weak New Jersey power-play. Anaheim owns the worst power-play in the NHL so the Habs have an opportunity for a perfect night while short-handed.
- Win puck battles
The Canadiens can’t let sloppy play in the defensive zone provide scoring chances for their opposition. Winning battles and moving the puck swiftly will frustrate the low-scoring Ducks.
