Game Preview by Sam Gerber
Last game : MTL 3  BOS 0

Two quick goals halfway through the first period by Brendan Gallagher and Max Domi were all the Habs needed to beat the Bruins. Carey Price got the win in a convincing matter with the shutout and now is second all-time in wins for the Habs. The Canadiens have been scoring goals in bunches, a positive sign for the Habs as they continue to pressure the opposition even after scoring. If the Habs can keep this up they know they can depend on Price and Niemi to shut the door for them.

Players to watch

  • Jeff Petry
Two seasons ago Petry took a hit from Jamie Benn that knocked him out of the game and was injured for a few weeks. I expect that Petry hasn’t forgotten the contact. In my opinion, he is one of the most underrated defenceman in the league. Petry has brought a physical element and his shot has become stronger.
  • Jesperi Kotkaniemi
It is only a matter of time before Kotkaniemi gets his first goal. He has done everything asked of him so far and I can feel a goal coming for the rookie.
  • Artturi Lehkonen
Lehkonen has been the Canadiens most consistent forward all season long. He is using his speed to create turnovers and generate chances for his linemates. Lehkonen has a world class shot that he could use more.

Keys to Victory

  • Shut down the power-play
It is no secret that the Stars have a skillful offense, especially on the power-play. For the Habs to stay in this game their penalty-kill has to shut the Stars down.
  • Start quickly
The Stars are coming off a frustrating loss against the Wings. The Canadiens will have to counter an expected strong start by Dallas.
  • Take control
The Habs have liked to possess the puck this season but must create better scoring opportunities rather than simply being satisfied with a volume of shots.

What to Expect by Sam Gerber
Ben Bishop was less than pleased, being quite vocal about the loss to Detroit. Montreal needs to carry the emotion of their big win over the Bruins. Radulov, who was not re-signed by Marc Bergevin a year ago, will have extra motivation and should get plenty of attention on the ice and by fans. Keeping a smart, skilled player like him in check along with his line-mates will be tricky test for Montreal. Jordie Benn should also enjoy the opportunity to play against his brother, Jamie. Expect the Habs to struggle in the faceoff dot once again.
