Pre-game Notes and Quotes
  • Willie Desjardins: “[Montreal] had a tough game [Saturday] night so they’ll be real hungry at home, and we stopped their streak so they’re going to want to give us payback, so it’s going to be a tough game,”
  • Both Brandon Sutter (undisclosed) and Alex Burrows (personal) did not practice Sunday, while Brandon Prust and Luca Sbisa (both ankle injuries) did. Both Prust and Sbisa are still questionable for Monday night’s tilt.
  • Alex Galchenyuk on Sunday’s practice: “We worked on details and brought up the compete level with a couple of drills to get the guys going and compete a little bit. It’s fun. It makes you prepare for the next game and we certainly are ready for it,”
  • Brendan Gallagher: “They played well against us when we were there, so hopefully we can return the favour this time around. We know it’s not going to be easy. They’ve been on a long road trip, so they’ve spent some time together. For us, it’s going to be about coming out, executing, and rebounding after the loss.”
  • Alexei Emelin (lower-body) is questionable, as his missed Saturday’ night game and didn’t practice with the team on Sunday. Carey Price will remain out.
  • The Canadiens’ still maintain a stellar home record of 7-1-1 at home, they join an elite group of NHL teams who only have one regulation loss at home this season (including the Rangers, Wild, and Predators).
  • with six goals against on Saturday night, the Canadiens dropped to 6th in the NHL in goals against with 39 (in 18 games). The Canucks’ rank 17th in the NHL with 46 goals scored against them, also in 18 games.
  • With only a single goal on Saturday night, the Canadiens dropped to second in the league in goals for (behind the Stars). They currently have 63 goals for in 18 games. The Canucks are not far behind them, as they are in a tie for 4th with 52 goals for in 18 games.

Fantasy Outlook
  • Brendan Gallagher is really starting to heat up recently. Always known to be a high volume shooter, as he has 60 shots throughout the first 18 games this season, his shots have started to convert to goals of late. Gallagher is now sporting a 4 game point streak and has 3 goals and 6 points over that span. In those 4 games, Gallagher is also a +2 and has 14 shots on goal. Don’t look now, but with this streak Gallagher pulls into a tie with Max Pacioretty for 3rd on the Canadiens in total points (and also ties him for the highest +/- on the team with +9). Start Gallagher with confidence heading into Monday night’s tilt.
  • Quick note: Alex Edler has 7 of his 8 total points this season while playing on the road. He also has 3 points in his last 4 games and has fired 11 shots on goal over that span. Needless to say, he is a sneaky start in daily leagues (as he should already be on your roster with a shorten schedule on Monday night)
  • Top scorers for the Canucks on the road this season are:
  1. Daniel Sedin (12 points in 10 games)
  2. Henrik Sedin (9 points in 10 games)
  3. Jannik Hansen (8 points in 10 games)
  • Top scorers for the Canadiens at home this season are:
  1. David Desharnais and Brendan Gallagher (both with 9 points in 9 games)
  2. Tomas Plekanec (8 points in 9 games)
  3. Tomas Fleischmann and  Max Pacioretty (both with 7 points in 9 games)
