Game Preview by Sam Gerber, Staff Writer |
Last game: MIN 6 MTL 3
For the Canadiens, it was a game to forget against the Minnesota Wild on Thursday.
For a complete recap: Gallagher Lone Bright Spot As Habs Dominated in MN
Players to watch
- Mark Scheifele
Scheifele has become a point per game player and is tied for the team lead in points. Tomas Plekanec’s line will likely get the tough assignment trying to shutdown Scheifele, fresh off a hat-trick in his last game.
- Jonathan Drouin
Drouin has been neutralized 5-on-5 in a majority of contests this season, with just two goals and four assists in 13 games. Drouin will have a tough matchup against the Jets but it will be a good test to see if he can rise to the challenge and own the center of the ice.
- Patrik Laine
Only in his second season, Laine has proved to have one of the top shots in the NHL. If the Habs give him space and open looks, he will make them pay.
- Brendan Gallagher
Gallagher has proved all season there is no quit in him. It was a typical strong Gallagher game in Minnesota with two goals.
Keys to Victory
- Get the first goal
The Canadiens can’t afford to give the Jets an early lead. Winnipeg scores in bunches and can bury the Habs in the first if they fail to score first.
- Forecheck, forecheck
The forecheck has been the Habs best part of their game. They need to capitalize on chances generated by their hard work on the boards.
- Expect a physical game
The Jets are big, strong and physical. The Canadiens need to be prepared to take a hot to make a play.

What to Expect |
The Habs are having a hard time keeping the puck out of the net but should compete much better than they did against the Wild. The Jets physical play can take control of the game and will lead to a lot of opportunities.
Prediction: Canadiens 6 Jets 4
If the Canadiens can take fans out of the game early, they have a chance to win. |
