 Game Recap:

The Canadiens weathered the Bruins storm, largely thanks to stellar goaltending from Carey Price, for the first 50 minutes of the hockey game. With Thomas Vanek and P.K. Subban combining for two goals, the Habs had a lead in the third. But the Bruins scored three goals plus an empty-netter in the final nine minutes with a lucky bounce and Francis Bouillon playing a large role.

 Post-game Press Conference

186237429_slideHead coach Michel Therrien

  • “We got to look about the big picture. I thought we played really well for 50 minutes. Even in the third period (for) the first 10 minutes, we were almost perfect. There was bad coverage for the second goal. You need breaks to win hockey games.”
  • “This is what they got from (Patrice) Bergeron‘s goal. You look at the replay it’s a bad bounce in front of the net. We got some breaks last game and they got the breaks tonight. There’s no need to panic.”
  • “We’re going home. We know that it’s going to be a long series. We’re ready for that. It would have been nice, honestly, because we were in a position to pick up two games here. But we’re going home and we know if we play our game we have chances.”
  • “Power-play was effective again tonight, this is a great thing for us. We did make some adjustments that I liked.”
  • “When the pressure is on we still have to be aggressive. But this is the first time we lost a game (when leading) going into the third period (this season.) Usually we’re pretty good at it. We just have to focus and make sure that we’re solid.”

Goalie Carey Price

  • “Well they poured it on at the end of the game. They got pretty lucky, I thought. They were playing desperate at the end of the game and they found a way to put it in the net. We’ve just got to regroup, realize the situation we’re in, we’re in a good spot, and move forward.”

Defenseman P.K. Subban

  • “Nine minutes left to go in the game, we have to shut it down. Good teams know how to shut things down when they have the lead. We are a good team, we have done it before. But at the same token we came here wanting to get one win, obviously we would have liked to have two, but we got one. We have home-ice advantage, we’re going back to Montreal, and we’ll be ready to play.”

NHL: Boston Bruins at Carolina HurricanesBruins forward Brad Marchand

  • We just talked about staying composed. I think we were getting a little too riled up about the penalties called and how we felt about them.”

Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron

  • ” I think we’re a resilient group and we’ve been there before and we have the confidence that we can actually come back in games. Tonight was a perfect example of that. That being said, they outplayed us for more than half the game, so we’ve got to be better.”

Bruins head coach Claude Julien

  • “The referee – I kind of told him that I didn’t agree with his calls.
  • On whether his rant was to motivate his team, “That’s a secret I can’t reveal right now.”
  • “The way we just battled back through, I felt, a lot of crap that we put up with today, was pretty indicative of what our team’s all about.”
  • “If we stole this [game], they stole the first one. I think what’s pretty obvious right now is that if we focus on what we need to do and try and not let the distractions of things we can’t control get to us, we’re going to be okay.”
