Flames sign Phaneuf to 6-year/ $39 million extension

Darryl Sutter didn’t have much choice but to give Dion Phaneuf a contract extension as he would have been given an RFA offer sheet by another NHL general manager in the summer. Phaneuf has become an elite, hard hitting defenseman in the mold of a Scott Stevens but with more offensive upside…….it’s hard to believe that he’s only 22 years old and will only get better!!
