Game Report

Two teams met in this game with significant players out of each of their lineups. The Canadiens were missing Mike Matheson, Brendan Gallagher, David Savard and Sean Monahan. The Flames were without Elias Lindholm and Mackenzie Weegar.

As the game progressed, Chris Tanev and Nick Suzuki was lost to Calgary and Montreal respectfully.

With the exception of the middle frame where Calgary held the upper hand, it was an evenly played match. Jake Allen had a very strong game with 34 saves. At the other end of the ice, Jacob Markstrom was outstanding particularly with the Canadiens on a four minute, 4-on-3 power-play in overtime. Former Canadiens forward Tyler Toffoli was assessed a double minor for high-sticking in the five minute extra period.

Juraj Slafkovsky had one of his best games of his short NHL career. Slafkovsky had the primary assist on the Canadiens only goal and led the team with four hits in 15:22 of ice-time. The rookie forward was also credited with three shots on goal.

After the game, Slafkovsky said “My mom texted me. She told me to shoot more.”

Up Next

Early in the second period, Cole Caufield accidentally collided with Flames forward Trevor Lewis. Caufield did not return to the game.

The Canadiens have a one game road trip to Ottawa to play the Senators on Wednesday night.

Post-game Quotes

Marty St. Louis

  • “It’s a good team victory. It wasn’t perfect, but it was one of our best games for 60 minutes.”

Jake Allen

  • “I often played against (Jacob) Markstrom because we are the same age. It’s always fun to play against the best goalies in the league and I think he’s in that group.”

  1. salut-bien chers amis,
take the 2 points and carry on,
feel bad for the flames-especially their goaler;markstom
he played great.just like our allen.especially in the o.t.
did not deserve a loss.niether goaler did.not a fan of this overtime stuff.
markstrom is oustanding yet feels bad because he let his team down with the o.t.loss???whats wrong with 1 point each???
both goalers were oustanding.both can exit feeling good about the match.and not letting their team down,,,not fair for the goalers!!!the burden of guilt always falls on them,,,
de tout facon, what do i know eh???
just another hockey old-timer who recalls
    “what used to be,eh,,,”
    portez-vous bien
