Copying the champs not so easy and a look at the Canadian teams

Here’s an excerpt from Eric Duhatschek’s article in Globesports.com with Sean Gordon’s review of the Habs:

Montreal Canadiens

Training camp news – Canadiens coach Guy Carbonneau told a gaggle of reporters at the opening of camp his roster was “99 per cent” set. But rookie forward Max Pacioretty wowed the Montreal brain trust and is one to watch in the AHL. The only other pressing question was the form of goalie Carey Price, who has enjoyed an excellent camp after reporting nearly 30 pounds lighter.

Salary Cap Number – $55.6-million (U.S.).

Breakout Player – Forward Alex Tanguay. He’s in a contract year and will see plenty of time on the league’s best power play.

Crash-and-Burn Player – Forwards Guillaume Latendresse or Christopher Higgins. With Pacioretty waiting in the wings, both will likely be on a short leash.

Will Make The Playoffs If … – The Habs stay healthy. Montreal has a deep, balanced, swift team with good goaltending. If healthy, the Canadiens probably just need to show up on time to ensure a postseason berth.
