MONTREAL – The Montreal Canadiens announced Tuesday that forward Kyle Chipchura was
assigned to the AHL’s Hamilton Bulldogs.

Chipchura, 23, played 13 games with the Canadiens this season, collecting three points (3 assists), serving five penalty minutes with an average ice time of 10:50.

The 6-foot, 205-pound centreman leads the Hamilton Bulldogs (tied with Dan Jancevski) this season with a plus-18 rating. Chipchura also amassed 26 points (13 goals, 13 assists) and served 29 penalty minutes in 33 games with the Canadiens’ affiliate club in 2008-09.

Chipchura, who acts as the Bulldogs’ captain, was selected by the Canadiens in the first round, 18th overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

  1. Chipchura is a prime candidate to be dealt at the deadline. He has had 3 pro seasons to make his mark in Montreal, and doesn’t seem any closer than he ever was to winning a regular spot.

  2. I feel badly for Chipchura. I like him and think he could be effective 3rd line shutdown center but his skating due to his injury is hampering him.

Chipchura could be dealt Wednesday but I’m not sure there are any takers right now. If not tomorrow, there is a good chance he will go in the offseason.
