Catching the Torch: Hudon Rallies

by Robert Rice, Senior Writer, All Habs Hockey Magazine

TORONTO, ON — This week in review (February 11th – February 17th), top honours belong to an increasingly popular name in the Canadiens farm system.

Your comments are most welcome. If you have a question about any of the prospects email me, and perhaps it will be answered in the weekly All Habs Mailbag feature that appears on these pages on Thursdays.

The Three Stars

1. LW Charles Hudon

Hudon_2011-09-28-0200044After a run of bad luck for the Chicoutimi Saguenéens and their captain himself, Charles Hudon worked his way back on to the scoresheet in dramatic fashion this past week. After a 5-game pointless streak, Hudon would step forward to help improve the fortunes of Chicoutimi, who had lost their last 6 games as well. Hudon would score two goals and two assists to help erase 1-0, 3-1 and 4-2 deficits to force overtime, although Chicoutimi would eventually lose in the shootout to the Val-d’Or Foreurs. Hudon would help Chicoutimi get revenge the following night in a rematch against the Foreurs, marking three assists in a 7-5 win, the first win in 8 games for Chicoutimi. Charles Hudon was drafted in the 5th round, 122nd overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2012 NHL Draft.

2. C Michaël Bournival

Like most of the Hamilton Bulldogs, Michaël Bournival has not had a great deal of luck finding the net over the course of the season. After missing 3 games with a minor injury, Bournival made a dramatic comeback on Friday night for Hamilton. With the Hamilton Bulldogs behind 2-1 going into the 3rd period against the Houston Aeros, Bournival would tie the game at 2, mark the eventual game-winner and than score an empty-net goal to cap his first hat trick in the AHL. Michaël Bournival was drafted in the 3rd round, 71st overall by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2010 NHL Draft and was acquired by the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for Ryan O’Byrne.

3. C Gabriel Dumont

While it is a difficult season for Hamilton, Gabriel Dumont continues to work on setting personal bests while helping the Bulldogs find different ways to win. In Hamilton’s final game against the Toronto Marlies for the season, Dumont would pick up an assist on all three of Hamilton’s goals in a 3-2 victory. Dumont would go without a point in his next two games, but still leads all Hamilton players in scoring by 13 points with 30 points on his season so far. Gabriel Dumont was drafted in the 5th round, 139th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2009 NHL Draft.
