Game Report

The Canadiens finished their home stand by arguably playing their best game of the season. Based on the standings, the Flames were the toughest opponents that the Canadiens have faced this season, after the Hurricanes.

The night didn’t start well as the visitors opened the scoring 2:02 into the game, on a sequence that began with a turnover by Christian Dvorak. After Ben Chiarot tied the score, Calgary took another lead into the first intermission. Heading into the game, the Flames had won seven of eight games where they scored first, and all six times that they led after one period. A tough hill to climb for Montreal.

Dominique Ducharme‘s team turned things around, and scored three unanswered goals to earn the two points in the standings. It was a team victory.

Nick Suzuki made up for the losing a battle that cost a goal, by scoring the winning goal during a power play. With his two points on Tuesday, Suzuki has tallied nine points in this five game home stand. Since October 26th, the forward is second in the league with 13 points collected during that time frame.

The line of Ryan Poehling, Michael Pezzetta, and Alex Belzile had a great night. Poehling was recalled from Laval following Wednesday’s game at Place Bell. The trio was effective every time they stepped on the ice. Poehling won five of the seven faceoffs, which led to the line spend a lot of time in the offensive zone and draw two penalties.

Mike Hoffman also contributed to the victory with two assists, and five shots. On Chiarot’s goal, he hustled to keep the puck in Calgary’s zone, and he also setup Suzuki on the game winning goal after forcing a turnover.

What’s Next?

The Canadiens finish the five-game home stand with five of the 10 possible points. On Friday, the team will fly to Detroit to face the Red Wings on Saturday, and then the Bruins on Sunday.
