Game Report

It was one of those nights where the stars in the heavens aligned and everything went the right way for the Montreal Canadiens.

Josh Anderson opened the scoring less than two minutes into the game. Fans were celebrating early at the Bell Centre.

A first period goal by Cole Caufield, unassisted. It was Caufield’s fourth goal of the season in his fifth game. Yes, it was a shot that Coyotes goaltender Connor Ingram should have stopped, one of several on the night, but gave the home team a two-goal lead with the game just over four minutes old.

Three minutes later it was Brendan Gallagher with his first goal of the season. The Canadiens had three goals on just four shots.

And five minutes after that, Arber Xhekaj pummeled Zack Kassian, humiliating the veteran tough guy by spinning him on the ice after the fight.

All in all, it was a perfect first period for fans of the Canadiens. But there was more to come.

Midway through the second, first overall pick Juraj Slafkovsky notched the first goal of his NHL career. Although not credited with an assist, Xhekaj played a large part in this goal.

And before the end of the period, captain Nick Suzuki borrowed a move from Pavel Datsyuk to score on the penalty shot.

Arizona scored twice in two minutes during the third period, but after a Sean Monahan empty netter, the Canadiens skated away with a decisive win.
