Week six kicked off on Tuesday night with a home tilt against the Winnipeg Jets.  Earlier in the day, Canadiens’ management surprised fans by trading Travis Moen to the Dallas Stars in exchange for 40-year-old defenceman Sergei Gonchar.  The first period of the game was relatively flat, but Lars Eller got the Habs on the board with a goal in the second frame.  Alex Galchenyuk then gave them a two-goal lead in the third period, with Tomas Plekanec finishing things off with a short-handed empty netter for Carey Price’s first shutout of the season.  Final score: Canadiens, 3-0. On Thursday, the Canadiens prepared for a rivalry matchup when the Boston Bruins came to town.  After getting pulled the prior evening, Tuuka Rask sat on the bench while Niklas Svedberg took up residence in net for the Bruins.  Gonchar made his debut with the Habs on this night, but otherwise the first period looked pretty much the same with the home team giving up yet another first goal of the game.  Things turned around quickly in the second period when Dale Weise scored a goal on a penalty shot, followed by Eller and Max Pacioretty both scoring 5-on-5.  Pacioretty would light the lamp yet again in the third period, followed by a power play goal from Jiri Sekac.  It was a notable night for Weise, as he also earned himself a Gordie Howe hat trick.  Final score: Canadiens, 5-1. The week and the home stand came to an end on Saturday night when the Philadelphia Flyers traveled to Montreal, bringing with them a dismal road penalty kill which proved to be their Achilles heel.  It was an opportunity for the Canadiens to improve on their disappointing power play record.  The Habs had three goal-scorers in the first three periods, all on the power play: Final score: P.A. Parenteau, David Desharnais, and P.K. Subban.  The Flyers climbed back to within one goal, with some questionable calls along the way, but the third period put the game away for the home team with another goal by Parenteau and two by Weise.  Final score: Canadiens, 6-3.
