The Habs continued their home stand this week with a game against the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night.  Early on things looked promising for the Canadiens, with Tomas Plekanec scoring a power play goal in the first period which was quickly followed by an even strength goal from Brendan Gallagher.  But then the second period rolled around and the home team took their foot off the gas pedal.  With Max Pacioretty, Brandon Prust, Danny Briere, and George Parros all out with injuries, it was a mistake the Habs couldn’t afford to make.  The Oilers went on to score four unanswered goals before Plekanec potted one with less than three seconds left in the game.  Final score: Edmonton, 4-3. Looking to rebound from back-to-back losses, the Canadiens took to the Bell Centre ice on Thursday ready to play against the Anaheim Ducks.  On an emotional night when former captain Saku Koivu returned to Montreal for what could be the last time as an NHL player, a new line emerged as an offensive strength for the home team.  Captain Brian Gionta, rookie Michael Bournival, and Tomas Plekanec have all scored multiple points in each of the last four games.  On this night, Bournival and Plekanec both scored in the first period, Gionta scored a power play goal in the second, and Rene Bourque wrapped things up by also netting a power play goal in the third.  Carey Price continued to play extremely well, only allowing one goal. Finally, on Saturday night, the Canadiens faced off against the San Jose Sharks.  If the Habs had hoped to continue the energetic momentum from their previous game, it didn’t show right out of the gate.  Play was sluggish and too much time was spent in the penalty box.  The Sharks struck first, scoring early in the second period.  Bad bounces, too many penalties, slow, sluggish offensive play, and breakdowns in the defensive structure all contributed to a less-than-stellar game for the Habs.  Things got even uglier when Travis Moen took a puck to the face late in the third period and Gallagher went badly into the boards.  Final score: San Jose, 2-0. The Canadiens begin their first four-game week of the season on Monday night when they meet up with the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. All Habs Three Weekly Stars

1st Star:   Tomas Plekanec

Plekanec centred the most dominant Habs line of the week and picked up two goals and three assists himself.

2nd Star:  Brian Gionta

After a slow start, Gionta got back on track registering two goals and an assist.

3rd Star:  Michael Bournival

Bournival fit right in with new linemates after being bumped up from the fourth trio. The Habs rookie had two assists and a goal on the week.
