► Training camp: October 7
- One more day until the start of the regular season and one more roster cut by 5 pm. ET for the Canadiens to reach the maximum of 23 players,
- On Monday, Nathan Beaulieu and Jarred Tinordi were told that they will be remaining with the team. Francis Bouillon was released from his professional tryout contract.
- Will Jacob de la Rose, Jiri Sekac, or Michael Bournival be heading to Hamilton? Or will GM Marc Bergevin swing a deal that will see the departure of Travis Moen?

► Bouillon released
- Marc Bergevin has been stressing young players playing big roles as the team moves forward. Unfortunately for 39 year-old Francis Bouillon, he doesn’t fit that description.
- After being released Bouillon was focusing on the positives, “I was expecting the decision to be made at the very end. I’m at ease with the decision. I was ready for either outcome. I arrived at camp in shape and with a good attitude. Management wanted to go younger, but I still had the passion to play and I wanted to finish my career here. I wanted to give it a final shot and I’m happy with what I’ve accomplished here. Obviously I’m a bit disappointed and emotional right now, but it’s normal. I have no regrets. If I didn’t report to camp, I could have been doubting myself two years from now. Instead, I’ll wake up tomorrow and be proud of what I’ve accomplished.”
- Bouillon had a final word for his loyal fans, “I’d like to thank everyone. I have nothing but good memories from my time here. I’ll be a Canadien forever, no matter what comes next. I’d like to thank all of the fans I’ve met over the years, whether at the grocery store or at a gas station, who have always supported me. This organization has treated me with class right until the end. Right until now.”
- Bergevin made it clear that the affection was mutual, “(Francis) is an extraordinary person, we all know that, but we have two young defensemen (Tinordi and Beaulieu) and it’s time to turn the page with those guys. I had a meeting with both of them this morning and I told them that while it’s hard to get into the NHL, it’s even harder to stay. They need to get better and better. We’re confident that they will get the job done.”

► Changing the (defensive) guard
- While sad to see veteran Francis Bouillon go, fans should be happy to see youngsters make their mark. Defensemen Nathan Beaulieu and Jarred Tinordi are certainly looking forward to making the most of their opportunity.
- Beaulieu shared his emotion saying, “I’m excited. I found out about the news just before we stepped on the ice. It was an honor. It was nice to talk to the coach and GM. It’s an exciting time but the work has just begun. They really liked my camp. They liked how things went. The biggest thing for us young guys is just to keep going and to stay consistent.”
- Jarred Tinordi chose to praise Boullion, “Frankie’s a good, veteran guy who helps out all the kids. He helped me, he helped Nate (Beaulieu), and I’m sure he helped Greg (Pateryn) too. Now we’re going to be asked to fill a larger role on this team than we have in the past, so it’s on us to step up.”
► Monday’s practice
- Lars Eller led the stretches during Monday morning’s practice. He confirmed that he will be ready to play in the season opener against Toronto on Wednesday night.

► New Habs radio voice
- Nova Scotian Dan Robertson has been announced as the new voice of the Canadiens on TSN690 radio. Robertson, who had been a sports personality for Eastlink TV, will join colour man Sergio Momesso in the booth for Habs broadcasts.
► Jets waive Budaj
- Just about 24 hours after acquiring him from Montreal, the Winnipeg Jets placed goaltender Peter Budaj on waivers. The Jets hope that Budaj clears waivers so that they can send him to their AHL affiliate, the St. John’s IceCaps.
- Ondrej Pavelec is the No. 1 tender in Winnipeg with prospect Michael Hutchinson slated to be his backup.
► Bulldogs trim camp roster
- The Hamilton Bulldogs assigned forward David Makowski to Wheeling their ECHL affiliate on Monday. They also released five players bringing the training camp roster to 29 players.

► Rapha is a Flame
- Former Canadiens defenseman, Raphael Diaz has signed a one-year contract with the Calgary Flames for $700,000. The 28 year-old played with three teams last season, Montreal, Vancouver and the New York Rangers. Diaz was a free agent until he was signed on October 6th by the Flames.
► Captain McDonagh
- To no one’s surprise, New York Rangers 25-year-old defenceman Ryan McDonagh was named captain of the New York Rangers, the 27th in team history. McDonagh, a former Canadiens prospect, replaces Ryan Callahan who was traded to Tampa Bay last season.
