  • Showstopper: Mike McCarron with a solid hit on Kevan Miller knocked the Bruins defenseman into goaltender Niklas Svedberg.
  • Injuries: Lars Eller did not play. He is listed as day-to-day with a lower body injury. Mike McCarron left the game in the second period favoring his arm after being driven into the goalpost by Bruins defenseman David Warsofsky. Canadiens report that McCarron has an upper-body injury. When he left, he was having his best game in a Canadiens jersey.
  • NHL 3 stars: 1. Drayson Bowman  2. Jiri Sekac  3.  Ryan Spooner (BOS)
  • Postgame: Coach Michel Therrien on Jiri Sekac: “He does a lot of good things out there. He’s excellent with the puck. He works extremely hard, and he’s in terrific shape. We really like the way he competes. There are a lot of good things that really stand out about his play. We’re starting a new stage of training camp with these preseason games. We’ll give him every opportunity to prove himself.”

Summary:

  • Ryan Spooner put the Bruins on the board first 1 min. 17 seconds into the game. Seventeen was involved in the next goal as well, indirectly. Rene Bourque (number 17) took a penalty which the Bruins capitalized on, doubling their lead. With 9.7 seconds to spare in the first period, Jiri Sekac put his team within one. Collectively as Habs fans, the large majority of us miss, warrior Josh Gorges who wore 26 for them last year, but new-comer, Jiri Sekac who now sports number 26, is looking better and better! The Canadiens certainly have a bright future ahead of them.
  • At the mid-way point of the game the Habs were out-hitting the Bruins.

  • Christian Thomas tied the game 2-2 at 16:49 of the second period when he batted a puck out of the air past Bruins goalie Niklas Svedberg for a Canadiens power-play goal.
  • The young Habs sent Bell Centre fans home happy as Drayson Bowman scored with just 48 seconds remaining for the win. Joey MacDonald made a game-saving stop in the dying seconds to preserve the victory.

Fucale returned to Juniors

  • On Tuesday, the Montreal Canadiens announced that goalie, Zachary Fucale, would be returning to his junior team, the Halifax Mooseheads. Fucale is the first cut of training camp bringing the total to 63 players.
  • Fucale lead the Quebec Major Junior League last season in wins with 36, and in goals against average with 2.26.
  • He drafted by the Canadiens 36th overall at the 2013 entry draft.

Sabres to announce captain after training camp

  • Buffalo Sabres general manager, Ted Nolan, is perhaps waiting to see how players lead in a game situation before announcing who will captain the team. Tuesday night he named three players to wear “A”s, Matt Moulson, and former Habs, Brian Gionta and Josh Gorges.

►  Washington to host 2015 Winter Classic

  • Since 2008, Washington Capital’s majority owner, Ted Leonsis, has wanted his team to host a winter classic.
  • He described his desire after watching the 2008 Winter Classic, “I said, ‘This is the greatest thing I’ve ever seen and I want one of these for our fans.’ It just had this big-event, big-game vibe about it, and I loved every minute of it.”
  • He went straight to emailing NHL commisioner, Gary Bettman, and voiced all the reasons that he thinks Washington would be a great host. Finally after close to five years, his wish has been granted and the Washington Capitals are to host the 2015 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic.
  • Leonsis no longer has to plea and now can instead start counting down the days until January 1st, 2015- puck drop. He had this to say after it was announced that Washington would hosting,  “There is something magical about it, so I was pretty relentless about it with the League. I’m very grateful to the commissioner for doing the research and believing that we could support and be a worthy host for this great game.”
