Less than 30 thoughts

  • Elliotte Friedman, in his weekly 30 Thoughts, devoted a few to the Montreal Canadiens.
  • In speaking with an NHL GM, Friedman reports that “Montreal is checking to see what’s out there” with respect to defencemen. Friedman speculates that GM Marc Bergevin may be willing to move one of their 14 forwards to make room for Jiri Sekac.
  • Friedman mentions that the Canadiens may be missing former assistant coach Gerard Gallant who was a strong voice on the bench and “an important conduit between Therrien and the dressing room. Therrien, who wields a hammer, needs that buffer.”
  • Friedman also reports that we won’t be seeing Alex Galchenyuk at centre for the time-being. Canadiens brass “feel he’s not as instinctive in the middle, and don’t want him overthinking.”

► Bulldogs game day

  • The Hamilton Bulldogs begin a weekend series with the Adirondack Flames tonight at FirstOntario Centre in Hamilton. It’s the first of eight meetings between the two teams.
  • Canadiens defenceman Jarred Tinordi will be paired with Davis Drewiske. Tinordi will be returned to the big club on Sunday.
  • Joey MacDonald will get the start in goal. MacDonald has three of the Bulldogs four wins this season.

 McCarron is a monster

  • Habs prospect Michael McCarron is off to a great start with the London Knights this season.  In 10 games, McCarron has 5 goals and 13 assists for 18 points.
  • At 1.80 points per game, McCarron is tied for the team lead with Max Domi, who is sixth in OHL scoring.
